Fall Adult Ed with Rabbi Resnick | |
New Fall Class with Rabbi Resnick (in person)
History and Philosophy of Conservative Judaism
Tuesdays thru December 13, 7:30-9pm
Join as we explore the historical roots and philosophical underpinnings of Conservative Judaism. Following a brief exploration of some major philosophical trends in the Jewish Enlightenment, we will explore the Conservative movement’s inception in 19th century Europe and then trace a variety of core themes through to the present day. We will pay special attention to the history of Jewish ideas and the development of halakhah, encountering the writing of Zechariah Frankel, Solomon Schechter, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Mordecai Kaplan, Arnie Eisen and others.
The course will conclude with an examination of some contemporary halakhic issues in the movement as well as an overview of the institutional landscape.
There is a $75 suggested donation for this class. Please contact Melainie in the office to register.

Our library is open.
Coming Soon: Date TBA
Raid our shelves so
we can make room for new books!
New books can be found on the mantle. To check out a book, find the pocket with a card in the back. Write your name and the date you borrowed the book. Leave the card in one of the blue bins.
Please return all borrowed books to one of the two blue bins provided -- one in the library by the large windowsill, the other on the guest desk in the main office. This will enable the librarians to keep books in circulation and keep track of who is borrowing our books. Do not shelve returned books.
Thank you for your cooperation. -- Barbara & Liz
