Summer Soiree

On Tuesday, July 21 we hosted a Summer Soiree at the Country Club of Lansing, with wonderful hospital supporters Edwar and Lana Zeineh.

Edwar is the Foundation Board of Trustees Vice Chair. He invited community members to learn how the Foundation supports McLaren Greater Lansing hospital.

It was a fun summer evening!

Impact Moment

Cardiac Surgical Unit Advanced Life Support Training, Cardiothoracic Surgery Department

Thanks to training funded by the Foundation, a patient life was saved!

After a routine open-heart surgery at McLaren Greater Lansing, in June, a patient unexpectedly flatlined the day after surgery. Thanks to Cardiac Surgical Advanced Life Support Training the department received, the patient's nurse, Amber, saved him in less than two minutes. Cardiac surgery patients are most vulnerable immediately after surgery. The post-care they receive in the first 48-90 hours after surgery is vital to their long-term recovery. The Foundation was able to fund on-site advanced training for 18 McLaren Greater Lansing Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit team members.

"McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital was absolutely phenomenal. Every single solitary second. My gratitude is off the charts. I HIGHLY recommend that institution for any medical needs. WOW, just WOW." - a grateful patient.

Foundation Funded

 Outpatient Rehabilitation Services Picnic Table

Thanks to our Bright Ideas Mini Grant Program, we were able to help the McLaren Greater Lansing Outpatient Rehabilitation Services department with the installation of a picnic table. This accessible communal outdoor space was a wish list item of the team since the hospital opened. The table allows for outdoor lunch breaks, informal team interactions (such as Popsicles at the Picnic Table!) and supports a positive workplace culture. Kristin Masters, Director of Rehabilitation Services, was excited to have this space and shared that, "literature shows access to outdoor spaces for employees in healthcare settings improves mental health, reduces stress, and fosters collaboration."

The Bright Ideas Mini Grant Program awards grants of up to $2,000 to support projects that improve patient care and enhance patient comfort or experience. Mini Grants are open to all hospital departments. Funding comes from our hospital employee donors, the McLaren Giving League, from fundraisers such as Cheers for Charity, and from shoe and linen sales put on by McLaren Greater Lansing Volunteers.
