Congratulations to the McLaren Greater Lansing Structural Heart Team on their 300th TAVR implant performed Thursday, December 11. The Foundation was pleased to fund the TAVR device, thanks to a generous donation. TAVR, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, is game changing for those suffering from aortic stenosis, a condition in which the heart's aortic valve thickens and calcifies, preventing it from opening and closing properly. The procedure is much less invasive than a conventional open-heart surgery.

The Foundation funded a new Smith and Nephew Shoulder Positioner TMAX System for the McLaren Greater Lansing surgery department.

For over a year now, surgeons and schedulers have been reorganizing their daily case types due to the need for another piece of this specific equipment. With the additional TMAX, they can provide five operating rooms at the same time.

Patients no longer must delay their shoulder surgery. Amy Whisler, Supervisor, Surgery Products & Team Coordinator at MGL said, “this means greater confidence in care, lessening the emotional and logistical burden for staff, surgeons and most importantly, patients."

To improve the health of our community, work needs to be done both inside and outside the walls of the hospital. That's why we are proud to make the inaugural gift toward the United Way of South Central Michigan Disaster Response Consortium.

The consortium will focus on preparing, coordinating, and enhancing disaster response to meet the immediate and long-term recovery needs of people in mid-Michigan.
