Mike and Faith West have been supporters of McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation since 2018, but when a health emergency led the couple to McLaren Greater Lansing’s emergency room, the two of them found a way to give back to the hospital that saved one of their lives.
A few months ago, Faith was rushed to the hospital by her husband Mike after experiencing shortness of breath. She was then taken to the operating room for emergency surgery to place stents in her right carotid artery. Afterward, Faith and Mike wanted to find a way to give back.
Faith asked her cardiologist, Dr. David McComb how she could help. He showed the couple an old cardiac ultrasound 2D machine, telling them that a newer, high-resolution 3D cardiac ultrasound was at the top of the cardiology department’s wish list.
So, Faith and Mike made a donation to the Foundation, enabling the purchase of the equipment.
The new machine allows doctors to see the structures and functions of the heart in far greater detail than they could with the old 2D image, leading to more accurate diagnoses of complex heart conditions. In some cases, 3D echocardiograms can provide enough information to avoid additional tests, such as an MRI.
“Knowing that our contribution will help so many people, it feels wonderful to give back to our community,” said Faith. “As Christians, Mike and I passionately believe that God calls us to do what we can to help others. In this case, we give God all the glory, because He has blessed us to be able to give back.”
