SCALE is a once in a lifetime experience for a student. Launching our careers to the next level. At SCALE students are exposed to the top industry professionals and firms that complete some of the largest projects in the world. SCALE pushes us students to look at a design through a different light. To think about how DESIGN IMPACTS LIVES. SCALE is comprised of seminars, firm tours, and interactive sessions with industry partners. I encourage all interior design students to go to SCALE and for students here in CT SCALE next year is in NYC!

ASID University of Bridgeport, Vice President elect

My passion for interiors is contagious and the joy that design brings me is indescribable. I am completing my second year of the Interior Design program at the University of Bridgeport and was recently elected to be the Vice President of the UB Chapter of ASID. I am so excited to be a leading member of ASID UB chapter so I can share my passion with my fellow classmates who are after the same goal. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a designer. I have always been fascinated with colors, textures and other design elements. Getting involved with ASID has allowed me the privilege of meeting so many design professionals, strengthening my desire to be exceptionally successful one day. I believe that what sets me apart from other designers is my astute attention to detail and my communication skills that have grown from my outgoing personality. I hope to someday be an integral part of a design firm where I can further expand upon my skills and share my passion for the industry.

Student Career Launch 2018

On Thursday, February 15 we held our Student Career Launch 2018 at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design at the University of Bridgeport.  In their beautiful 9 th  floor event room overlooking the sea we hosted over 100 Students, Designers, Industry Partners and Architects to a wonderful evening with a very special speaker, Jennifer Bertrand, winner of HGTV's Design Star and host of Paint Over!  Very many thanks to Marsha Matto, Chair of Interior Design at the University of Bridgeport, to our sponsor Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, media sponsor CTC&G and the vendors who supported the evening:  Carlisle, TorrcoWakefield Design Center, Fordham Marble,  Kebabian's Rugs, Design Within Reach, Sherwin Williams, New Dimension and Stark.

What a successful event not only for our students but, for our designers as well! Our event started with portfolio reviews for senior interior design students. Helping them get the necessary critiques that help their portfolio get to the next level. Then we had our intern speed dating. Designers and potential interns interviewed each other in intervals of 2-3 mins to try to find the perfect match. It was a huge success bringing together designers, Industry Partners and students.

Member Spotlight

Ingrid Bergman, Allied ASID

Ingrid Bergman started her design career in 2013, after 20 years working in the high end fashion industry. She learned the trick of the trade during her employment with a high end interior design company in Dubai. She believes her retail experience is a major benefit to her clients. She has a impeccable taste for colors and fabrics. Due to her buying skills she has a perfect eye to source the most exclusive furniture for her clients. She successfully controls deadlines and budgets with unbelievable organizational skills. However, greatest quality is her ability to listen to her client's needs and deliver beautiful results. She feels that these attributes are important to developing successful client relationships, which ultimately lead to creative and inspired design choices, and client satisfaction.

"All my life, I have been fascinated by the effects of style, colors and materials. I strongly believe that decorating is never successful if it's not about the people who live in those spaces. Interiors should reflect the dreams and the passion of each homeowner".

Ingrid has a full service residential design company and represents Eric Kuster Metropolitan Luxury a high end luxury brand for fabrics and furniture. Both the design company and the agency are based in Norwich, CT.

Industry Partner News
Think you're allergic to wool? Think again! If you've ever worn a wool sweater that's made you itch, you probably thought you were allergic to wool. But, wool allergies are very rare. What you likely experienced is the "tickle and prickle" of the short fibers against your skin, much like how cut hair on your neck makes you feel after a visit to the salon.
Purify Your Air with Wool
What many people don't realize is that wool can actually help minimize allergic reactions. When wool is made into a carpet or rug, it helps trap dust, pet dander and other allergens and keeps them out of the air until they can be removed by vacuuming.
Even more impressive is wool's unique ability to remove volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) from the air. VOCs have received considerable public attention in recent years, and for good reason. They can cause eye, nose, and throat irritations as well as aggravate allergy and asthma symptoms. Wool binds these pollutant gasses in its structure and permanently eliminates them from the air. In fact, wool is proven to significantly reduce indoor air contaminants within seven hours of installation and can keep purifying the air for 30 years.
Naturally Healthy and Beautiful
Not only is wool naturally healthy, it is also comfortable and beautiful, especially when it is hand-crafted in carpets and rugs by Carlisle. Our new collection is made in partnership with Just Shorn wool from New Zealand, a provider of some of the cleanest, whitest wool in the world. Carlisle combines this exceptional wool with designer-inspired patterns and textures to perfectly enhance your living space.
