 "Our Town"
    All Member Show
  Spotlight Wall - BJ Glanville
 July 22 - August 13
  Our Town PC2
Our spotlight artist, BJ Glanville, has a professional background in the textile industry, designing fabrics for multiple applications: home furnishings, apparel & automotive interiors.  Growing up in the Virgin Islands, she was introduced to silk screen printing by one of the early pioneers, Jim Tillett, and the textures, pattern and colors of the Caribbean are still infused in her artwork today.

"Most recently, my creative process has focused on monoprinting (printing on paper and on fabric; often incorporating a layering of both).  I am intrigued with working on only one print ("mono") and using a press to transfer the painted image. Taking an image and finding a pleasing way to repeat its pattern across a surface; always paying close attention to detail and the complexity of layering, is rewarding for me." BJ Glanville
KAA at the Kittery Farmer's Market
When:  Sunday, August 13th, 10 am to 2 pm
Kitery Farmer's Market logo
Yes, you read that right -- KAA will be at the Kittery Farmer's Market on Sunday,
August 13th from 10-2

And WE NEED YOU!

We're looking for some adventurous and art-minded volunteers to help set up, break down and do a membership drive at our booth on the day of the event.

We're also in need of a few plein air painters to paint at the market that day to help "paint a picture" of what being an artist is all about and what we have to offer here at KAA for artists as well as art lovers/collectors.

This is your chance to shine!  Come share your talent with the locals at the Kittery Farmer's Market -- it's a guaranteed great time with a fun group of people, plus a terrific opportunity to GET NOTICED

And for all those budding young artists out there, we'll also have a table set up for kids to create some art of their very own.

To sign up to volunteer, or for more information, call us at 207-451-9384, or email: information@kitteryartassociation.com

Opening Reception: Sunday, August 20th, 4 to 6 PM

Art from the Sea PC
Postcard Artwork
by Anne Scheer
Our Spotlight Artist, Susan Goodby, shares her history and vision with us in her Artist's Statement below:

"Although my teachers thought I excelled in art in grade school more decades ago than I care to remember, I only took a few random art classes along the way to my degree in sociology.  Art was not on my radar screen when it came to a career and consequently I spent a number of unfulfilling years working in insurance until an anticipated very early retirement allowed me to follow my interest.

After moving to Vermont, I took a number of local art classes then began a series of yearly art classes in Italy.

I started off in watercolor but quickly took up painting in oils which I worked in exclusively until a workshop in 1999 launched me on an intensive exploration of collage: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and florals.  They were immediately successful and won me many awards.

I developed a habit of working in collage for awhile then switching back to painting, then vice versa, along the way also beginning to paint in acrylics.

More recently, after moving to Maine, I started using water soluble oils and love their properties which combine aspects of both regular oils and acrylics.

My work in art has heightened my sensitivity to the world around me, in particular color.  I find the nuances of color infinitely challenging to understand.  Through my art, I try to share my delight in the beauty of the world around me." ~Susan Goodby
