The Doral CARES Emergency Rental Assistance Program provides rental assistance to residents of Doral who can demonstrate a pressing financial need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides a one-time assistance grant of up to $2,500.00 to help residents cover unpaid rental payments. For qualifying residents, rental assistance will be based on one month’s rent up to the maximum grant amount.
This is an information seminar showing you how to complete the forms and what to look out for and other pertinent issues to help increase your chances of being accepted and approved for the Rental Assistance Program..
Grant funds will be disbursed first come, first served directly to landlords until funds are exhausted. Funds will be paid directly to approved landlords in the form of a grant which must be used solely to provide rent forgiveness in the same amount to eligible tenants. Residents must submit a completed application online, and provide all required materials to be considered eligible.

It's no secret that I am very disappointed at Mayor Bermudez and the Council for taking so long to provide these grants and the result is that for many businesses it's too late for hailmarys and political moves such as this one, but no matter whether it was politically motivated or not at least Mayor Bermudez and the Doral City Council took action and put together these grants to help small business.

Grant Details
The Doral CARES Small Business Assistance Grant provides financial assistance to small businesses within the city that have been economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program provides eligible businesses with a one-time assistance grant of up to $10,000.00 for allowable specified COVID relief. The reimbursement grant program is intended to help small businesses that are not part of a national chain or franchise to recoup COVID-related expenses incurred between March 12, 2020 and September 30, 2020.
Expenses may include rent, employee salaries, inventory, insurance, communications, technological upgrades, training, cleaning, and COVID prevention supplies related to the pandemic. Grants will be considered on a first-come first-served basis and will be awarded to eligible businesses until funds are expended.
The amount of the grant will be based on the expenses submitted and funding availability. Businesses must submit a completed application online , and provide all required materials to be considered eligible based on the following criteria:
- Business must be a for-profit entity physically located in Doral, established before March 12, 2020 and legally operating in Florida.
- Business must have 3 to 25 current employees (part-time employees and subcontractors may be included).
- Business must be in good standing with the city, with all taxes and required licenses current.
- Business must provide financial documentation that shows proof of financial stress or operational disruptions due to the pandemic.
- Business must be open for business or able to open upon lifting of mandatory closure orders.
- The program does not apply to national chains and franchises or home-based businesses.

Veterans and active duty military personnel with small businesses can now apply for up to $25,000 in grant money to help them weather the COVID-19 crisis under a new program established by legislation sponsored by Miami-Dade County.
To apply for the grant, go to https://www8.miamidade.gov/apps/ISD/SBD_VBG. The grant money can be used for such business expenses as rent, mortgage, utility bills, licenses, insurance and PPE purchases to comply with COVID-19 safety orders.
Applicants must demonstrate past or imminent financial loss due to COVID-19 and present proof of a valid Veteran’s Affairs identification card or a copy of Department of Defense Form 214. The program will give preference to applicants who demonstrate that they have not received financial assistance from other emergency county, city, state, or federal forgivable loan or grant programs established in response to COVID-19.
“Now more than ever, we need to be there for our veterans, many of whom have been hit particularly hard by the coronavirus crisis,” Commissioner Diaz said. “I’m very proud to have sponsored this important legislation to utilize a portion of our federal coronavirus funding to specifically help our veterans and active duty military personnel who have put everything on the line for this country and who deserve our help especially during these times.”
The grant program for small businesses owned by veterans or active duty military personnel is utilizing $5 million in funding from the federal CARES Act, which was signed into law in March by President Trump to provide financial relief to individuals and businesses financially impacted by the coronavirus state of emergency. In addition to the $5 million for small businesses.
The legislation includes $10 million in federal coronavirus funding for homeowners or tenants who are veterans or active duty military personnel and another $5 million in CARES Act funding for veterans or active duty military personnel in need of basic items such as groceries, gas and toiletries. Grant applications for these two additional programs are not yet available as they are still being finalized.

Hospitality Industry Grant (HIG) Program
The entire staff and Board of the Doral Chamber of Commerce has been working diligently since the start of the Covid-19 crisis to help all of our local businesses. We have many amazing restaurants and entertainment venues that need assistance to survive.
We started The Taste of Doral program in 2012 to help our local restaurants with marketing and promotions designed to help them grow their business. During July we emailed a different offer each and every day. This month we will continue with our weekly email detailing our restaurants offers and promotions. You can also visit the website to explore Doral's dining and entertainment venues.
We have been constantly researching local, state and federal programs in order to bring you all available programs as soon as they are released. Hospitality Industry Grant (HIG) Program was made available to local independently owned and operated restaurants and non-home-based caterers impacted by COVID-19.
The Miami-Dade County Board of Commissioners has approved $35 million for the Business Grant Program specifically for the Hospitality Industry. The goal of the program is to provide financial assistance to local independently owned and operated restaurants and non-home-based caterers impacted by COVID-19. Priority will be given to businesses that have not been approved or received funds from any institution under the Paycheck Protection Program Loan (PPP) or other federal or state assisted business loan program and have a single establishment.
The $30M HIG program will be calculated based on individual percentages of eligible costs incurred, with a maximum award of $25,000 per establishment. The program will award grants to a maximum of two (2) establishments per restaurant/hospitality group. Priority will be given to applicants that have a single establishment. If an applicant has two or more establishments and requests assistance for both, then a single application must be submitted.

I know that the uncertainty of Covid-19's impact on the economy has caused great financial hardship on many local businesses, possibly even yours. Our local business leaders have failed to offer financial solutions in the form of grants or other relief, with some council members publicly stating that it's not the City of Doral's responsibility and others not fighting to find viable solutions to help our Doral businesses. (See Video Starting at 1:30).
In an effort to help our local businesses I have made it a point to research and inform you and other business owners of all possible financial assistance available from local, state and federal government, including SBA Loans, EIDL Grants, PPP, etc...
But the big question is... what can I and the Doral Chamber of Commerce staff and board do for yours and other businesses in Doral?
Our business community needs creative ideas and innovative means to survive during the pandemic and thrive afterwards. What are your ideas?
