July 29th - August 2nd

Jigme Wangdrak Rinpoche has given teachings and has served as vajra master at our sister centers, Tashi Choling and Orgyen Dorje Den. We are delighted to now welcome this authentic and genuinely kind teacher to Dorje Ling.

We are currently at capacity for attendance in person but are opening up the event online.

ONLINE Schedule of Events

Thursday, July 30th & Friday, July 31st

6:30-8:30pm

Rinpoche will teach from his book, Loving Life As It Is: A Buddhist Guide to Ultimate Happiness

Chakung Jigme Wangdrak Rinpoche is the spiritual director of Abhaya Fellowship located in the Bay Area. He is a fourth descendant of the great Tibetan master Dudjom Lingpa. Rinpoche studied at Larung Gar Monastery and received teachings and empowerments from His Holiness Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok, who formally requested for Rinpoche to teach and preserve the lineage of Dudjom Lingpa.

Looking forward, we are optimistic that Rinpoche will visit Portland again. Because of the interest this year, we will be actively looking to rent a larger venue for future events to accommodate our growing community. We are excited to continue creating opportunities for all of us to connect with visiting lamas.

If you have any questions, need assistance with online registration, or just want to reach out, please feel free to email us at dorjelingpdx@gmail.com.

Thank you for your practice and your shared joy as we prepare for this auspicious visit!

With everything growing so quickly at Dorje Ling, it’s time for some summer care! We have a lot to do to prepare the center for Rinpoche's visit. From weeding to general tidying, there is a job for everyone.

If you cannot make it on Saturday but would still like to help with the various outdoor projects (now and over the summer), please reach out to Dallen directly via email. We truly appreciate any time you can give.

Join Us at the Portland Buddhist Festival!

Dorje Ling members enjoy the Portland Buddhist Festival so much we’d like to share a little information about it and encourage you to join us there this year!

A Brief History

The Portland Buddhist Festival began in 2003 and, with the exception of the COVID pandemic years, has continued annually for over twenty years. It was originally established by the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, an international organization dedicated to applying Buddhist teachings of wisdom and compassion to contemporary struggles for peace and justice.

Guided by Heidi Enji Hoogstra of Dharma Rain Zen Center, coordinator of Portland's Buddhist Peace Fellowship chapter, the festival was created to build connections among Portland's diverse Buddhist communities while introducing people new to Buddhism to a wide variety of traditions.

Although the Buddhist Peace Fellowship has since reorganized into a unified national network and no longer directly supports regional chapters, the Portland Buddhist Festival lives on!

The Festival Today

Today, the Portland Buddhist Festival is organized and hosted by Dharma Rain Zen Center on its beautiful 14-acre campus in Northeast Portland. It remains a vibrant gathering and a highlight of the Pacific Northwest dharma community, bringing together sanghas from many Buddhist traditions.

The day traditionally begins with a Gathering Circle, during which each participating group offers a prayer or short reading from its own tradition and invites everyone to join in chanting. Throughout the day, visitors can explore sangha booths, attend guided meditations and workshops, enjoy sacred dance, and participate in activities for children and families.

Last year, Dorje Ling members participated in a Poetry Open Mic co-sponsored by Shambhala and Dharma Rain, enjoyed Laughter Yoga led by members of the Buu-Hung Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery, attended a discussion on Engaged Buddhism, and sampled delicious momos from the Nepali food truck.

At the Dorje Ling booth, Carolyn shared tea with appreciative visitors while Dallen, Mat, Phyllis, Dennis, Beverly, and other sangha members welcomed guests interested in learning about Vajrayana Buddhism and Dorje Ling's regular programs and special events.

This year, Phyllis will present "Honoring Tara: Tibetan Buddhist Movement and Meditation." Additional offerings include Japanese and Nepalese dharma dance, qigong, Magic and Energetic Ethics, Working with Koans, and a panel discussion on Engaged Buddhism.

Gateway to Himalayan Art

Now through July 5th

Eugene, Oregon

Several sangha members drove to Eugene to view the Rubin Museum's traveling exhibit, "Gateway to Himalyayan Art." It's a wonderful and informative display! The Rubin closed its physical location in New York City less than two years ago, and has transformed itself into a global museum with traveling exhibits, online meditations, a print magazine, and a great website worth exploring. The exhibit leaves after July 5. Rubin Museum website

"You must first practice hearing the Dharma, then contemplating it, then meditating upon it. If you don’t learn the Dharma first, then on what will you meditate? It will help you accomplish your own benefit and the benefits of others—in this life and future lives."

Lojong - 7 Points of Mind Training

Teaching with Lama Drimed Rinpoche

Sunday, July 12

10-12pm & 2-4pm

In Person (at ODD) and Online

Lojong, also known as The 7 Points of Mind Training, is very important to learn because as a "Dharma practitioner if we listen to many teachings and we don't put them in our mind and in our practice then it won't help as much. In Dharma the mind is most important and also training your mind is important."
