Work Party

September 13th

10:00-3:00

12:00-1:00 Potluck

Our August and September projects have been focused on the auspicious visit and empowerments from Khenpo Tsewang Rinpoche! Volunteers have already done numerous jobs deep cleaning, organizing, and landscaping, but we still need help finishing our list and prepping the center for Rinpoche's stay. Please come to our work party prepared to work inside or out, and come for any part of the day.

If you’re not able to attend the work party but want to help at another time, please reach out to Carolyn by phone, email, or in person to coordinate. Every bit of help is truly appreciated.

Please phone or text Carolyn, 541-324-3200, or send an email to dorjelingpdx@gmail.com.

Thank you already!

Khenpo Tsewang Rinpoche's Arrival

Rinpoche arrives on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:30 pm on United.

In many traditions, it is customary to greet a teacher upon their arrival. Several sangha members will meet at the "bleachers" in the Portland airport (pictured). We will have khatas (white scarves) available or bring your own.

Rinpoche will be staying at Dorje Ling.

He leaves early on Tuesday, September 23.

October Meditation Retreat

Silent Meditation Retreat

October 11th and 12th, 2025

8:30am - 5:30pm daily

Dorje Ling is pleased to offer our annual meditation retreat this October. Both beginners and experienced meditators

are warmly welcome!

Join Matthew Small, Dorje Ling’s program director, to explore meditation techniques:

  • Day 1: Shamatha (calm abiding) meditation
  • Day 2: Vipassana (insight) meditation

The days will be divided into increasingly longer sessions with instructions from Matthew using the texts Natural Liberation by Gyatrul Rinpoche, and The Attention Revolution by B. Alan Wallace, PhD, as well as other sources.

We will provide simple vegetarian lunches. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please bring your own food.

The recommended donation is $20 for each day. Please offer what you can; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Teachings on the Ngöndro Practice

with Matthew Small

Part Two: Saturday, Sept 6th,

Matthew is teaching once again on the Dudjom Tersar Ngöndro. Note that for this series, instead of 10 weeks after Sunday practice, he is teaching for 4 hours on two consecutive Saturday afternoons. Matthew explains and deepens our understanding of how to do the practice, and elucidates the meaning of each part, while sharing important commentaries along the way. The classes are open to all, including those new to Buddhism, those interested in learning more, and long-time practitioners.

Troma Nagmo Mixed Feast, Hosted by Dorje Ling

Friday, September 26th, 7:00-8:30pm

If you are interested in exploring the Chod (cutting through) traditions of Vajrayana Buddhism, you are invited to attend. Troma Nagmo is a wrathful female manifestation of wisdom, whose practices are designed to cut through ego, attachment, and dualistic thinking.

Please bring instruments and texts if you have them. We have some available.
