Silent Meditation Retreat
October 11th and 12th, 2025
8:30am - 5:30pm daily
Dorje Ling is pleased to offer our annual meditation retreat this October. Both beginners and experienced meditators
are warmly welcome!
Join Matthew Small, Dorje Ling’s program director, to explore meditation techniques:
- Day 1: Shamatha (calm abiding) meditation
- Day 2: Vipassana (insight) meditation
The days will be divided into increasingly longer sessions with instructions from Matthew using the texts Natural Liberation by Gyatrul Rinpoche, and The Attention Revolution by B. Alan Wallace, PhD, as well as other sources.
We will provide simple vegetarian lunches. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please bring your own food.
The recommended donation is $20 for each day. Please offer what you can; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Dorje Ling was deeply honored to host Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche and Lama Lorraine in September. Over three days, Rinpoche bestowed three empowerments and led a Refuge ceremony in which 32 people took refuge. The evenings were full to capacity without having to turn anyone away, and the atmosphere was joyful, devoted, and harmonious.
Dorje Ling itself shone—our grounds were beautiful, the bedrooms warmly prepared, and the kitchen fully functional, offering spectacular meals throughout the visit. Our collaboration with Kagyu Changchub Chöling was seamless, and Rinpoche expressed his happiness with all of the preparations and the setting.
| | |
We offer heartfelt gratitude to Ila and Shashi Reitz of Tashi Choling, whose leadership in ritual and lama care made these empowerments possible. And to everyone else—all our sangha volunteers and friends —thank you. Your hard work and countless tasks before and during the empowerment week-end contributed to creating such a beautiful few days. And by doing this, you provided an opportunity for many to take vows for the first time, and for the rest of us to renew our commitments. Before departing, while enjoying plums from our tree, Rinpoche recalled Clark (Jampal Gyatso) and remarked how pleased Clark would be to see the flourishing of his center today.
Now Khenpo Tsewang Rinpoche and Lama Lorraine have returned to Padma Samye Ling, leaving us inspired to carry on. Rinpoche’s foremost reminder was clear: the most important samaya is daily practice. For Buddhism to take root and flourish in America, especially in these troubled times, it is up to each of us to activate the dharma. May we continue with joyful diligence, together.

"You must first practice hearing the Dharma, then contemplating it, then meditating upon it. If you don’t learn the Dharma first, then on what will you meditate? It will help you accomplish your own benefit and the benefits of others—in this life and future lives."

TLC Transitional Life Care: Bringing Adversity to our Spiritual Path with
Jetsunma Jamyang Yeshe Palmo
Sunday, October 5th
10:00am to 12:00pm
Online
| | | | During this time of world-wide conflict, suffering, and inner unrest, it is our great fortune to have access to true guidance. Bringing adversity to the path is a teaching from the “lojong” text of the Kadampa meditation master Geshe Chekhawa Yeshe Dorje (1102-1176), and is especially suitable for us now. Jetsunma Yeshe Palmo’s open-hearted wisdom, clarity, and skill will offer a deeper understanding to help us integrate this profound advice. Receiving guidance that will assist in the cultivation of compassion so that we are able to actively transform obstacles into opportunities for spiritual development has never been more essential. Please join us. | | Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara | | |
October 25th
6:30-8pm
Dorje Ling
3200 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR
Sacred dance is movement meditation. Just as we have rituals and practices to help cultivate our innate wisdom and compassion, linking those practices to dance and movement helps us to embody those qualities.
