Dear Dosberg Manor Residents, Family Members and Responsible Parties,

Last week, we shared what residents are most thankful for. This Thanksgiving, we want you to know that we are extremely thankful for all of you. The love and support you give to your loved ones, and to our staff, means more than words can say. We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Traditional Thanksgiving Feast for Residents
To celebrate the holiday, we have planned an extra special Thanksgiving meal for all residents to enjoy tomorrow. The menu includes:

Turkey Breast with Gravy
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Glazed Carrots
Cranberry Sauce
Dutch Apple Pie

Thank You For the Flowers!
Many family members, friends, and neighbors took advantage of our partnership with Michael’s Floral Design to send Thanksgiving bouquets to Dosberg Manor residents. These bouquets are a big hit and the recipients love them!
Updated Visitation Guidance
With Thanksgiving this week, the Department of Health (DOH) has provided updated guidance discouraging residents from leaving Dosberg Manor for gatherings. This guidance aims to keep residents and staff safe and healthy, as COVID-19 cases are widespread throughout Erie County.

Per the DOH, it is encouraged that residents follow all recommended infection prevention and control measures outside the facility, including:

  • Limiting close contact with others (maintaining physical distancing of six feet or more), avoiding large gatherings and keeping gatherings as small as possible, and use of technology to engage with others remotely
  • Wear facemasks or cloth face covering to the extent possible
  • Performing frequent hand hygiene
  • Avoiding sharing of communal food or drinks

Per DOH guidelines, residents who leave the facility must:

  • Quarantine or minimize contact to the extent safely possible prior to their return to the facility.
  • Be quarantined on transmission-based precautions upon return to the facility for 14 days.
  • Test negative immediately (within 24 hours) prior to their return to the facility.
  • Be tested at least three times during the 14-day quarantine period at the facility, including on the first day (upon return) and the last day that a resident must be quarantined.

If you have already made arrangements to take your loved one out of the facility for Thanksgiving, you will be contacted by a staff member who will share further DOH guidance that will require written consent prior to your loved one’s departure from the facility. Per the DOH, the leaving resident and a family member or friend must attest in writing that you:

  1. Are aware of the risks involved with taking the resident out of the facility;
  2. Will follow masking, social distancing, and hand hygiene practices pursuant to CDC and DOH directives;
  3. Will notify the facility if the resident becomes ill within one week of leaving the facility;
  4. Will notify the facility if anyone with whom the resident socialized tests positive for COVID-19 or influenza or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 and influenza within 14 days of the resident’s return to the facility;
  5. Will communicate with the facility about a return date for the resident to the facility in accordance with the facility’s policy; and
  6. Will quarantine or minimize contact (or assist the resident to do so) to the extent safely possible prior to return to the facility.

If you have any questions, please contact Dana Zientara at dzientara@weinbergcampus.org, (716) 639-3311 ext. 2505. We take COVID-19 very seriously and appreciate your understanding.

Visitation Update
We have reported one positive case of COVID-19 in a staff member at Dosberg Manor. Per the DOH, we are required to suspend in-person visitation at this time. Restricted in-person visitation can resume Monday, December 7, pending we have no new cases of COVID-19 for 14 consecutive days. We appreciate your patience and support throughout this mandatory waiting period.

Skype or window visits can be scheduled by contacting Alyssa Fitzgerald at afitzgerald@weinbergcampus.org, (716) 639-3311 ext. 2458.

Dosberg Manor Residents Explore!
Our residents have been using technology to keep themselves mentally stimulated on campus. You can often find residents enjoying a day at the zoo, a stroll through the museum - even taking on the deep seas! Check out some of our adventurers, below.

Checking out the Houston Zoo!
Pictured here is one of our residents watching the live zoo cams of the penguins and sea lions at the Houston Zoo. He says, "It reminds me of the zoo in the Bronx I often visited with my kids."

Virtual Tours Bring Back Memories!
Another Dosberg Manor resident enjoys a virtual tour of Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica in Lackawanna. She says, "Being Catholic, I really appreciate seeing the artwork and reading the facts about the building. It brings back memories of when I went to visit."

Holiday Door Decoration Contest
Every year, we deck the halls for the holidays! We thought we'd make this year extra special by hosting a door decorating contest among Dosberg Manor residents - and include their families in the fun! If you'd like to assist in decorating your loved one's door this holiday season, please drop off decorative items to Dosberg Manor, or contact Alyssa Fitzgerald (afitzgerald@weinbergcampus.org) with ideas for how we can decorate your loved one's door this holiday season.

All items and ideas are due by Friday, December 11.
We will be posting a picture of everyone's decorated door on our Facebook page the week of December 21, and friends and family will have a chance to vote for their favorite door until December 28. We will then announce the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, who will all receive a prize!
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving.
