Double Nickels!
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
~Ephesians 2.10
Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
Double Nickels - I guess that is what they call it when you reach the wise age of 55.
This was my milestone this week- a birthday that I also share with my son Parker. (Wouldn't it be neat if my granddaughter was born today?
But alas, it is too early for her birth!)
If you look closely at the "double-nickels" you will also see the year of 1960- yep, it was a very good year.
;-)!
We commonly think of gifts when it comes to birthdays and special occasions. If we were to make a list, it might include the car in the driveway with the giant red bow on it, a dozen red roses or even a greeting card full of cash. Who doesn't like a tangible display of affection, especially if it was a little expensive? As I am aging I am learning a new-found wisdom: It is not about the presents, it is about presence. This past weekend Mark and I gathered with our kids to celebrate birthdays and, although the presents that were exchanged were lovely, being together, our presence with each other, did more to fill my heart!
On Sunday we will re-enter the ADVENT CONSPIRACY and consider how this year we might spend less on Christmas presents to each other while at the same time increasing our presence with each other; all this so that we might give more in the name of Christ. Does that even make sense? Read it again:
We will
consider how this year we might spend less on presents to each other while at the same time increasing our presence with each other; all this so that we might give more in the name of Christ.
Indeed, Paul's words ring true as I turn 55 years young: We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works... working together for the good of God's kingdom, right here, right now. Let's conspire!!
See you in Church!
Pastor Linda
