GRIEF RESOURCES

May 2026

Announcing Dougy Center's newest online grief education course, "Grief as a Mental Disorder: A Critical Assessment"

Grief is a natural human experience, however, there is a growing trend to pathologize grief and describe certain grief responses as "abnormal."

Dougy Center's newest online grief education course, Grief as a Mental Disorder: A Critical Assessment, is designed for people who want to understand the historical evolution of how society views grief and the key factors that have influenced the diagnostic model, which sometimes conceptualizes grief as a mental disorder.

This course aims to provide learners with a critical perspective on these issues, empowering you to better understand the controversy and to support people who are grieving.

This self-paced course can be accessed anytime (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) and completed in your own timeframe. Find more information on this course, as well as many others offered by Dougy Center here.

Free webinar on Children's Grief Awareness Day focuses on how lived experience shapes the way we support children who are grieving

In recognition of Children’s Grief Awareness Day, November 19, Dougy Center is offering a virtual panel discussion, "The Child We Once Were: How lived experience shapes the way we support kids who are grieving." Featuring professionals who experienced the death of someone significant during their own childhood, panelists will reflect on what they needed from the adults around them, what was helpful, and what they wish had been different.

Through lived experience and professional insight, the conversation will explore how childhood grief shapes the way we support children and families who are grieving today. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how small, intentional actions can make a meaningful difference in a child’s grief journey.

This webinar is free to attend with your registration. Learn more and register here.

While any type of death can leave families feeling isolated, some are met with more shame and stigma than others. Deaths from suicide, homicide, substance use, or certain illnesses may evoke disapproval or blame toward the person for how they died, distracting from who they were and how they lived. This webinar explores the unique challenges faced by children and teens who are grieving a stigmatized death.
