New Tip Sheet for Families

This month, we’re stepping away from our traditional Facilitator Tip Sheets to share a brand-new resource designed specifically for Dougy Center participants.

A dilemma many families face is figuring out when they are ready to "close" from their group. To help navigate this tough decision, we’ve developed this guide for families to talk through it together.

Please note, it’s not your responsibility to have this conversation with a family. If a child, teen, or adult in your group brings up wanting to close or needing support in figuring out when it’s the right time to do so, we encourage you to connect them with your Staff Coordinator.

Please bring any questions about this resource or about how people decide when to close from a group to your next pre-meeting.

Take care,

Your Dougy Center Group Coordinators

Volunteer at Reflection, our Annual Benefit & Auction

Dougy Center's annual Reflection Benefit & Auction is coming up on Friday, May 8, at the Hyatt Regency Portland, and we'd love your help!

Reflection is a meaningful showcase of community support for our work and the largest fundraising event for Dougy Center.

There is no way we can pull it off without help from folks like you. If you'd like to volunteer, please email kelsey@dougy.org to learn more.

What We're Reading and Listening to Lately

There’s some profound grief writing to be found over on Substack these days. Here are two folks we’re following:

  • Things That Don’t Suck: Megan Falley, the widow of the late poet, Andrea Gibson, is also a poet and writes with exquisite precision about the daily realities of grief. We’re not taught how to hold grief, so we falsely believe it is the heaviest thing in the world we can carry. That isn’t true. It’s only true when we have to carry it alone.

  • Holding Both: Marisa Renee Lee is the author of Grief is Love and the upcoming book, Waiting for Dawn. She’s also been a guest on Grief Out Loud and We Can Do Hard Things. My mother’s last communication was laughter. Her joy is my inheritance.

Anderson Cooper continues to host heart opening conversations about grief on his podcast, All There Is. While the season is full of interesting conversations, two episodes really stood out to us.

Adult Caregiver Facilitator (ACF) Peer Supervision

If you facilitate an adult caregiver group, mark your calendar for these upcoming ACF Peer Supervision meetings. All sessions are 5:30 - 7 p.m. and facilitated by Lindsey Brodie. RSVP to lindsey@dougy.org.
