On Monday, August 3 at 6:30pm in the Community Room, Attorney Kathryn S. Williams and Attorney James W. Hardy will offer an informal, conversational seminar where they discuss topics such as estate planning, probate, and real estate. Afterward, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions. The seminar is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

On Tuesday, August 4 at 11am in the Trustees Room, join us for a free presentation on the basics of the American tax system led by Consumer Law Staff Attorney Meredith Byerly from 603 Legal Aid.

On Monday, August 10 at 6pm in the Community Room, Mary Ann Esposito and her husband Guy will present gardening and cooking tips from her book "Ciao Italia: Plant Harvest Cook!". They will speak for about 35 minutes, have a Q&A, and then offer a book signing.

Mary Ann Esposito is the creator and host of the nationally televised PBS series, Ciao Italia with Mary Ann Esposito and the author of 14 cookbooks including her most recent, Ciao Italia: Plant. Harvest. Cook! Through Ciao Italia and appearances on programs including The Today Show, the Food Network, Discovery Channel, Fox, RAI International, The Victory Garden, and many others, she has been able to share traditional Italian cooking, history and culture with audiences around the world. Mary Ann has also worked beside world-renowned chefs like Julia Childs and Jacques Pepin.

On Friday, August 14 at 10:30am on Zoom, welcome to our yearlong series in which “America’s Preeminent Presidential Doodler”, Heather Rogers, shares facts, factoids, and fun illustrations about the presidents of these United States. This month we're talking Martin Van Buren: First president born in the United States but English wasn’t his first language. Don't you want to know more? In 2026, journey through Heather's sketchbooks as she shares some of her favorite tidbits, doodles, observations, and resurrection stories about the first 12 presidents. 



This program is in partnership with the Ashland Public Library. 

On Monday, August 17 at 6:30pm in the Community Room, join us for a presentation by David Goethel, author of Endangered Species: Chronicles of the Life of a New England Fisherman. Copies of the book will be for sale.

If David Goethel was a cat, he would be in the market for more lives. But David is a small boat fisherman, an endangered species, who works tirelessly for himself and others like him to survive. Follow along on that journey, sea stories and autobiography mixed with twists and turns of science and management as David and his family work relentlessly to feed America sustainable seafood. 

On Tuesday, August 18 at 3pm and Thursday, August 20 at 6pm, come learn to make Artist Trading Cards with Rachel! Wondering what an Artist Trading Card is? Artist trading cards are 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size, the same format as baseball cards or playing cards. They are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist/producer, exchanged and collected by the other creators.You don't need any previous experience or skill with art to have a great time and make pretty artist trading cards. We'll have all the supplies you need to create your very own ATCs. You'll leave class with a finished card or three and ideas for more. This class is open to adults and teens, and registration is required.

On Friday, August 21 at 10am, join us at Strafford Farms for our monthly DPL Breakfast Book Club. The twist on this group is that we will not all be reading the same book. Participants will have a chance to share opinions and ideas about what they are currently reading. This is a great way to get suggestions for your TBR (To Be Read) list and to connect with other book lovers. A list of all books discussed will be emailed to the group after the event. Please register so we can let Strafford Farms know how many people to expect.

Do you dream of being an art forger? Give it a try! Each month we will take on replicating a famous work of art. On Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30pm in the Community Room, we will be painting The Storm on the Sea of Galilee by Rembrandt van Rijn.. We'll start off with a brief history on the piece, as well as an overview of the techniques and the medium. We will have pastels, watercolors, colored pencils, markers, and more at your disposal to render your imitation. Feel free to bring your own art supplies as well. This is not a class. We will have a reference photo on the overhead projector. Just come paint, draw, relax, and socialize. The Knitting Group is meeting Tuesday, August 4 in the Mullen Programming Room in the Children's Room & August 18 from 9:30 - 11:30am in the Garland Room. This group is open to anyone who has a love for knitting, crocheting, and related fiber arts. Please bring your works-in-progress and any finished objects you would like to show off to the group.
