Sierra Club Film

On Tuesday, March 5 at 6:30pm the Library will be hosting a showing of a Sierra Club film. "Reimaging Power" tells the backstory of clean energy from innovation to installation. A discussion will follow the 50 minute film.
 
 
Make Your Home Healthy  
 
Steve Hergott of Dover will present on Wednesday, March 6 at 7pm about ways to keep your home healthy. He'll describe some early-warning signs to watch for, including specific pollutants or types of houses that can be problematic. Steve runs his own business, Inspired Indoor Air LLC and has lots of experience in helping homeowners keep their most valuable asset safe.
 
17th Annual Poetry Contest  
 
The Dover Public Library is pleased to announce the 17th Annual Dover Public Library Poetry contest for grades K-12.  Prizes will be awarded in six different categories:  Grades K-2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, and 11 &12.  Poems will be judged on originality, style and creativity.  Deadline for entry is April 16 th . Students may pick up information about the contest on our website at library.dover.nh.gov starting on March 13.  All participants are invited to attend an "Evening of Poetry" on Monday, May 20th at 6:30pm; refreshments will be served.  For more information about the contest please contact Denise LaFrance at 516-6082.


Organic Gardening Class

 
Get ready to grow with a 3 week organic gardening series with Master Gardener Vince Cirasole which runs on Monday nights on March 18, March 25, and April 1 from 6-8pm.   Pre-registration is required for the series. You may register online through the library's event calendar or call the library at 516-6050 to register.
 
Friends of the Library
Cultural Event
 
Everyone is Irish in March. The Friends program this month extends the St. Patrick's Day celebration with traditional Irish instrumental and vocal music by the Celtic band, Penhallow of Portsmouth, NH. Join us on Tuesday, March 19 at 7pm for some toe-tapping fun for all ages.
 
 
Local Author 
 
On Tuesday, March 26 at 6:30 pm local author Erica Sousa will be here to read from her book of poetry "Thoughts, Feelings and Goofiness" Erica uses writing as therapy. Come and hear about her life and her work.
 


Healthcare for All 
 
 
On Wednesday, March 27 at 6:30pm Thomas Clairmont MD of Physicians for a National Health Program (pnhp.org) will speak about the organization's goal of improved Medicare for everyone. Healthcare affordability, security and stability will be the topic of discussion.
New Items to Check Out at the DPL!
Birding Bag

Borrow our new Birding Bag for 3 weeks and get started with bird watching as a hobby. The bag includes binoculars, a couple of bird guides, a bird call, and more! Ask at the Adult Circulation Desk.
Binge Box

Enjoy a good movie binge? Then you should borrow a new Binge Box! We have 13 boxes housing 4-6 movies centered on a genre, actor, theme, or character available to borrow for 2 weeks. One loan per household at a time please and no renewals.
 


Monthly Offerings

Adult Knitting Group
 
On Monday, March 11 from 6-8pm and Thursday, March 21 from 10am-12pm our knitting group will meet in the Trustees Room. This group is open to anyone who has a love for knitting and crocheting.  All levels are welcome!
Monthly Game Night 
Monthly Game Night is on Wednesday, March 20 from 6-8pm . Join friends and neighbors for some friendly competition with one of our many games, or bring one you'd like to teach to others.
 
Creativity Corner
 
The library wants to help you be creative. We have a new database called Creativebug which teaches you how to do various crafts with instructional videos. Then you can bring your creations to a monthly group called "Creativity Corner" which meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm.
Join a Book Group
 
Join a book group! The Morning Book Group will discuss the book "Flight Behavior" by Barbara Kingsolver on Thursday, March 7 at 10am. The Evening/Afternoon Book Group will meet on Monday, March 18 at 3pm AND 6:30pm to discuss "One-in-a-Million Boy" by Monica Wood. Pick the time that works best for you. "Get Lit" meets at Sonny's Tavern in Dover on Wednesday, March 27 at 6:30pm. They will be discussing "The Museum of Modern Love" by Heather Rose . New members are always welcome.
Pizza & Pages
Teen Book Group


The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 13 at 6pm .  We encourage kids in grades 7 and up to attend.  The group will be very informal with pizza and refreshments being served.   Join us to hang out with friends and maybe meet new ones.  The next book will be The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and copies of the book are currently available for borrowing at the adult circulation desk.  Hope to see you there! Want to read excepts from classic works of world literature and discuss them with others? Join us every month on the first Sunday at 2pm. Each selection is available online for free. Ask for a list of each month's selections at the desk or look at the library's website
