The Friends of the Dover Public Library Need You! 
Please come to the next Friends' meeting on Tuesday, September 10 at 6:30pm . We need your input and involvement to inspire fresh new ideas, to encourage participation, to lead new sub-committees, to serve as officers, and to amplify the influence of the Friends of the Dover Public Library. Meetings are just five times a year: on the 2nd Tuesday of September, November, January, March, and May.

Laugh Free and Live

The Friends present "Laugh Free and Live" with Saundra Maisey on
Tuesday, September 17 at 7pm .  Saundra is a certified Laughter Leader with the World Laughter Tour. This organization promotes a worldwide movement for health, happiness and peace by encouraging everyone to tap into the positive benefits of laugher and humor. The program is an invitation to breathe, laugh and play for your well-being. Saundra will share learning exercises to enhance playfulness, stretching, deep breathing, and laughter exercises that combine laughter and movement for fun for all.
 Stories from Mount Washington

On Monday, September 23 at 6:30pm
NH author Dan Szczesny will present a showing of the film "The White Mountains: rediscovering Mount Washington's Hidden Culture." New Hampshire filmmaker Bill Millios and Back Lot Films have created a short documentary on some of the important, but perhaps lesser known characters that make New England's highest peak one of the most well-traveled in the world. The film is based on Dan Szczesny's book "The White Mountain" and takes a behind the scenes approach on how the boo k was compiled and researched.
Adult Escape Room   
Challenge yourself in The Hunt for Shady Sam: Adult Escape Rooms on Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30 or 6:30pm . You are a DNA and blood analyst for the Johnstown Police Department. You have been investigating several homicide cases involving one of the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives: Shady Sam. All the DNA and blood evidence at the crime scenes point to Sam as the guilty culprit. You have been called to testify in court on your findings, but a mole that he planted within JPD stole your files and locked them in a box. Registration is required.
Death Cafe
A Death what? Drink coffee, eat cake and discuss your inevitable demise. Sounds fun right? Hospice Help Foundation will partner with the Dover Public Library to host a Death CafĂ© on Saturday, September 28 from 9:30 - 11:30am where the conversation is always interesting, informative, and thought provoking!
This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so please RSVP by registering on the events calendar.
Star Watching Bag 
Teach yourself the planets and constellations of the night sky by borrowing the Library's NEW Stargazer Kit. The Stargazer Kit is a backpack that contains binoculars designed for astronomical use, a rotating star finder, a Sky Atlas designed for stargazing with binoculars, a step-by-step guide to finding stars, and a red LED flashlight so you can refer to books and charts without ruining your night vision. The Stargazer Kit goes out for three weeks, just like a book. You can borrow it from the Adult Circulation Desk.
Monthly Offerings
Adult Knitting Group
On Monday, September 9 from 6 - 8pm and Thursday, September 19 from 10am - 12pm our knitting group will meet in the Trustees Room. This group is open to anyone who has a love for knitting and crocheting.  All levels are welcome!
Monthly Game Night 
Monthly Game Night is on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 6 - 8pm . Join friends and neighbors for some friendly competition with one of our many games, or bring one you'd like to teach to others.
Join a Book Group
The Morning Book Group will discuss the book "News of the World" by Paulette Jiles on Thursday, September 5 at 10am. The Evening/Afternoon Book Group will meet on Monday, September 16 to discuss "Kookooland: a memoir" by Gloria Norris. Join the discussion at 3pm or 6:30pm . Pick the time that works best for you. "Get Lit" will meet on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30pm to discuss "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith at Blue Latitudes.  New members are always welcome.
Pizza & Pages
Teen Book Group

The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 18 at 6pm .  We encourage kids in grades 7 and up to attend.  The next book will be The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid  and copies of the book are currently available at the adult circulation desk. 
 Discussion Group 
Interested in reading classic works of literature and improving your listening, reading, and communication skills at the same time? If so, then consider participating in a discussion group project, on Friday, October 4 from 1 to 2pm, based on great works themed around the topic of friendship. Discussion excerpts are available on the library website or ask for the list at the desk. New members are always welcome.

On Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30pm we will be showing "MA" starring Octavia Spencer. This horror film is rated R.
Fourth Thursday Movie 
Now that we are open Thursday evenings, we will add a new movie series (it won't happen again until December.) Watch the hit film "Yesterday" about a world without the Beatles on Thursday, September 26 at 6:30pm.
