From the Principal's Office
Dowell Families -

What a great time we had at our pep rallies this week. We got to celebrate and recognize lots of different student groups and show our school spirit. Please see some of the pictures on our Dowell Facebook page. The next few weeks before Spring Break are very busy here at DMS. Our 6th grade students are getting ready to go on a wonderful field trip to the 6th Floor Museum, The Holocaust Museum, Children's Museum and Spaghetti Warehouse. We will be having our registration meetings for parents on February 23rd. Our incoming 6th grade meeting will be at 6:00 pm. Our rising 6th/7th grade parent meeting will follow at 6:45 pm. All meetings will be in the cafeteria. We will also be hosting our Open House on February 27th from 5:30-7:00 pm. We look forward to you seeing all of the great things going on at Dowell.

Have a fabulous weekend!

The fundraiser will run from 2/7 - 2/28.  There will be lots of chances to earn great prizes. We are so  excited to offer this delicious popcorn to you. More information to come!

UIL Academic Competition
Academic UIL District Meet will be February 7th and 9th (during the school day) at Johnson Middle School and Saturday, February 11th at Faubion Middle school. Competitors will be bringing home schedules this week. If your competitor is competing in the following events, Editorial Writing, Impromptu Speaking, Modern Oratory, Ready Writing, or Oral Reading, they will need to bring in a permission slip that they have received from their coaches  because those events will occur during the school day.

Just a reminder that you are only allowed to bring lunch and snacks for your own student and not their friends and classmates.
----------------------------
We appreciate your help with this for the health and safety of all our students.

A reminder that high school counselors will be on the Dowell campus on Monday, January 30th to help current 8th grade students with their schedules for 2017 - 2018.

From the Nurse's Office

Forgetting about food safety is a recipe for disaster. Did you know that one in six Americans could get sick from food poisoning this year alone? Food poisoning not only sends more than 100,000 Americans to the hospital each year - it can also have long-term health consequences. These four simple steps can help keep your family safe from food poisoning at home:
  • Clean: Wash hands, surfaces and utensils after each use
  • Separate: Meat, poultry, fish and eggs from all other foods
  • Cook: Cook foods safely and keep them warm after cooking
  • Chill: Refrigerate foods properly

ViewPoint Student Lunch Survey
We Need Dowell Student Input!
The ViewPoint Student Survey results help identify:
  • Student satisfaction with common menu offerings.
  • Specific reasons why students decide to eat or not eat meals at school.
  • Student perception of performance across 16 key food, customer service and dining environment attributes.
  • Student thoughts about making healthy choices and most effective methods of communication nutrition information to them.
The electronic survey can be taken anywhere - school, at home, or on the go. It takes less than 15 minutes to complete.

The survey launches today and ends February 14th.

Prizes
  • Each student that completes the survey will receive a cookie when they present the completion coupon to a cashier in the cafeteria.
  • Schools that surpass 75% of their student population with responses will receive a catered luncheon, featuring Chef Jeremy's famous Chicken Spaghetti, for their teachers and staff.
  • Students have the option to enter to win one of 20 Beats headphones upon completion of the survey. Winners will be selected from all entries across the country.
