From the Principal's Office
Dowell Families -

We have had a great week at Dowell! Our first round of STAAR testing is behind us and we know that there will be numerous successes. We have many exciting things coming up in the next few weeks. Our band and orchestra students will be performing in UIL competitions and our 7th graders will be attending their mixer on April 7th from 6:00 - 8:00pm. The last pep rally of the year is on April 13th at 2:00pm for 6th graders and 3:00pm for 7th/8th graders. PTO will be here the day of the pep rally to sell spirit wear at a discounted price, so be sure to join us. Hope to see you at one of these events or at a Lion track meet or tennis match in the next couple of weeks.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Water is needed for good health. Your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints. Water makes up more than half of your body weight. You lose water each day when you go to the bathroom, sweat, and even when you breathe. You lose water even faster when the weather is hot, when you are physically active, if you have a fever, vomiting or diarrhea. If you don't replace the water you lose, you can become dehydrated.

Symptoms of dehydration include:
  • Little or no urine, or urine that is darker than usual
  • Dry mouth; extreme thirst
  • Sleepiness or fatigue
  • Headache
  • Confusion; dizziness or light headed feeling
Don't wait until you notice symptoms of dehydration to take action. Here are some easy tips for staying hydrated:
  • Keep a bottle of water with you during the day.
  • If you don't like the taste of plain water, add a slice of lemon or lime to your drink.
  • Be sure to drink water before, during, and after a workout.
  • When you're feeling hungry, drink water. Thirst is often confused with hunger. True hunger will not be satisfied by drinking water.
  • If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule (for example, drink water when you wake up; at breakfast, lunch, and dinner; and when you go to bed).
  • Drink water when you go to a restaurant. It will keep you hydrated, and it's free.
