From the Principal's Office
Dowell Families -
I cannot believe that we are down to five weeks of school. This year has flown by and we have seen such growth in our students in academics, athletics, fine arts and maturity. I am super proud of all of the accomplishments of our school and students. May is going to be another month of celebrating great things and people at Dowell. We will have our honor roll ceremony for our 6th and 7th graders on Monday night and our 8th grade honor roll at the 8th grade walk on May 30th. We will  also celebrate our teachers next week with Teacher Appreciation Week.

If you have not gotten your ticket to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for tonight or tomorrow, there is still time. I had the pleasure of going to opening night and it was wonderful.  We have some very talented students here at Dowell.

Please remember that we have STAAR EOC Algebra next week and we will be a closed campus on May 2nd. We will also be a closed campus May 8th-11th for STAAR testing. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,
Holly Rogers
Principal, Dowell Middle School

From the Nurse's Office

You keep your skin clean. You condition your hair. You're eating right. You're doing all you can to look and feel great. But are you missing out on an important part of a healthier lifestyle? No matter what your age or shape, you should exercise daily. Not only does exercise tone your body, it strengthens your muscles, keeps your bones strong, and improves your skin. And there are more benefits of exercise -- increased relaxation, better sleep and mood, and strong immune function to mention a few.

As you make the daily exercise commitment, be sure to include the following three types of exercise:
  • Range-of-motion, or stretching exercises: You can do this with basic stretches or through dance, yoga, tai chi, and similar activities.
  • Endurance or conditioning exercises: Endurance exercises include walking, biking, climbing stairs, and swimming. These exercises strengthen muscles and build coordination and endurance.
  • Strengthening exercises: Resistance exercises help build strong muscles. You can do them with ankle and wrist weights, resistance bands, or free weights.
