Attention: Current 6th Grade Athletes!
Subject: Future Athletes of DMS  Athletic Orientation Days
Dear 6th grade parent,
This letter is to introduce you and your prospective student athlete to the upcoming 6th
Grade Athletic Orientation we are holding in McKinney ISD.  You are about to begin your journey as an athlete in MISD. Our goal at the middle school level is to prepare your mind and body to meet the challenges you will face as you strive to become a future MHS Lion, MNHS Bulldog or MBHS Bronco student athlete!

Your future coaches are anxiously waiting for the opportunity to teach you all about the requirements of middle school athletics.

1.      The orientation will include 3 days for males:  May 16th , 17th , 18th
2.      Doors will open each day at 6:30 am. The Orientation will begin at 6:45 am, and boys will hit the showers at 8:04am and then be able to get to breakfast in the cafeteria at 8:25am - then go to 1st period at 8:40am to start their education.
3.      The following forms are REQUIRED prior to day one of Orientation.  The forms, except for the physical, can all be filled out online at  http://mckinneyisd.rankonesport.com

a.     MISD Signature Page
b.     UIL Signature Page
c.      Emergency Contact Form
d.     Physical - Must be done in person at Dr's office.

* NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT 100% COMPLETION OF ALL FORMS
We hope this orientation will relieve some of the anxiety associated with 6th graders entering into the middle school athletic programs.  Our plan is to lay out expectations in regards to participation, effort, attendance, eligibility & accountability.  We are also hoping the Student Athletes will see the effort and intensity involved with middle school athletics on a daily basis.
We hope your 6th grader will participate and find out if they truly are ready to be a McKinney ISD middle school student athlete.
*Come dressed in workout clothing, bring towel, soap, deodorant , school clothes to change into after showering - use an athletic bag to carry their needs.  Buy or bring their own breakfast after workouts.  Tennis shoes to work out in will be fine all 3 days.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact  Coach Knowles @ tknowles@mckinneyisd.net

Thank you,
Dowell Boys Coaches

From the Nurse's Office

All current 6th grade students are required by law to have the following immunizations prior to the start of their 7th grade year.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis-containing vaccine (unless a booster dose received within the past five years)
  • Meningococcal vaccine (one dose)
  • Varicella vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)
The vaccines listed above are required in addition to those required by earlier laws. A signed statement of Varicella disease will count towards the Varicella requirement.

The Care Van offers FREE vaccines to children (Infants to 18 years of age) who are uninsured, have Medicaid, are American Indian or Alaskan Native or who have private insurance that does not cover vaccines. Passport Health will be available to vaccinate children ages 6 months to 18 years with AETNA, Blue Cross Blue Shield or United Healthcare insurances.

The next Care Van event is scheduled for:

WHEN: May 18, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

WHERE: Lawson Early Childhood Center, 500 Dowell St., McKinney, Texas

It is necessary for your child to be in compliance before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Please send updated shot records to Nurse Martha as soon as possible. Without a record of these vaccinations your student will not be able to start 7th grade.
