From the Principal's Office
Dowell Families -
It is hard to believe that we only have 7 days left in the school year. I am so proud of all of the hard work that students and teachers have put in this year to make my first year as principal such a success. I am also so appreciative of all of the support from you the parents. It is such a blessing to lead Dowell Middle School. Thank you for partnering with us.
Our 8th graders will be attending their Beach Bash on Monday, May 22nd. They will come to their 1st period class and then march in a parade through the halls around 9:40am. We will gather in the gym and then walk to the Beach Club across the street. We will be there from 10am to 2pm and then come back to Dowell for a yearbook signing party.
8th graders will also be honored at the annual 8th grade walk on Tuesday, May 30th at 6:30pm at McKinney Boyd High School. Please see the calendar below for all other important dates between now and the last day of school.
Have a great weekend!

From the Nurse's Office

All current 6th grade students are required by law to have the following immunizations prior to the start of their 7th grade year.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis-containing vaccine (unless a booster dose received within the past five years)
  • Meningococcal vaccine (one dose)
  • Varicella vaccine (two doses received on or after 1st birthday)
The vaccines listed above are required in addition to those required by earlier laws. A signed statement of Varicella disease will count towards the Varicella requirement.
The Care Van offers FREE vaccines to children (Infants to 18 years of age) who are uninsured, have Medicaid, are American Indian or Alaskan Native or who have private insurance that does not cover vaccines. Passport Health will be available to vaccinate children ages 6 months to 18 years with AETNA, Blue Cross Blue Shield or United Healthcare insurances.
The next Care Van event is scheduled for:
WHEN: May 18, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
WHERE: Lawson Early Childhood Center, 500 Dowell St., McKinney, Texas
It is necessary for your child to be in compliance before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Please send updated shot records to Nurse Martha as soon as possible. Without a record of these vaccinations your student will not be able to start 7th grade.

Important!   Important!    Important!   Important!   Important!

Please make sure that your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. We are unable to store any medications in the clinic during the summer and will dispose of  all medication left after the last day of school.
Please remember: McKinney ISD has a policy against sending any medication home with a student; therefore, you must come in personally and pick up any medications remaining in the clinic. We will  not send home medication with your child for any reason.
