From the Principal's Office
This has been a great first week here at Dowell. Students and teachers are getting to know each other and meeting new friends too. Everyone is settling into a routine and getting down to school business. The admin team had the privilege of meeting with all grade levels this week and welcoming them to the Dowell Way. It was great to see so many parents at our athletic and fine arts meetings this week to learn how to help their child to be successful this year. Many clubs are setting up their first meetings, so remind your child to be listening to announcements to know when and where they will be held. I hope that all of you are able to catch up on some rest and family time this weekend. I took my middle son, Carson, to college three weeks ago and he is coming home this weekend for a quick visit and to see his sister, Kathryn, cheer at her first varsity football game. So it will be a great weekend for family time.
Have a great weekend!

Breakfast is often described as the most important meal of the day, and rightfully so -- it not only provides important daily nutrients such as protein, fiber, calcium and carbohydrates, but it also helps improve school performance. If your child feels tired or has difficulty concentrating during the day, consider adding breakfast to his or her routine.
While eating any breakfast is better than skipping breakfast altogether, some choices are better than others. Carbohydrate-only breakfasts (such as bagels or toast) can give energy for 1-2 hours but eating a complete breakfast that contains a balance of protein, fat and carbs, can keep blood sugar levels steady for hours. More complete breakfasts are easy to make - try toast with peanut butter and a piece of fruit or cereal with milk and a glass of 100% fruit juice.
