Dowell Families -

We are wrapping up a fun week of dress up for Red Ribbon Week. Students and teachers both enjoyed getting to be creative with their school attire this week. I want to appreciate all of the families who donated clothes to our clothing drive for Samaritan Inn. We were able to donate lots of clothes and it feels good to help those in need. This weekend we have our Drama students performing their fall production. I hope that you can catch a show either tonight or tomorrow. Our football and volleyball teams will finish up their seasons next week. Please see the schedule below to catch their last game. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

From the Nurse's Office

Each year during Red Ribbon week, we discuss with students the importance of being drug free. Parents play a prominent role in preventing drug use. Be sure that you follow the school rules as they relate to medication. Remember that McKinney ISD has a no tolerance policy for students in possession of medications of any kind (including vitamins, herbal supplements and all over the counter medications as well as all prescription medications). Please read below the guidelines for medications at school:
  • All medication must be brought in to the clinic by an adult.
  • All medications must be in their original container. Prescription meds must have the prescription label.
  • An MISD Medication Administration form must be completed for each medication (including a parent signature).
  • Students may not share medications with another student (this includes siblings).
  • MISD RN's do not administer dietary or herbal supplements.
Parents who have responsible habits and attitudes regarding drug use send a healthy message and strongly influence their children's ideas about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Counselor's Corner
Aim for Success.
Your future is bright when you aim high and plan for success. Setting goals can turn your dreams into reality. It helps you focus on what you want and gives you a formula for achieving it.  Goals also help you make smart choices. When you have a goal, you have to work to achieve it. Anything that gets you closer to success is the right choice. Anything that seriously sidetracks you from it is the wrong choice.
While celebrating Red Ribbon Week students were reminded that drugs are always the wrong choice and can be a dead end to success.
