Another year has flown by. We have new DMF champions, and we have lots of new ideas for DMF September 13-15, 2024. We are excited to announce the following changes:
- The Mini Medal will now be a 2’ division open to juniors and amateur adults.
- The Junior Medal Division will now be run at the height of 2’6”.
-
A new 18” division, the Novice Medal, open to both short and long stirrup riders in their first two years of showing. Available at DMF in September only.
You will find the specs for each change below. Whatever height you qualified for in 2023/2024, you will show in. For example, riders who qualified in the mini medal at 2’6” will now show in the Junior Medal. Riders with points at this time will automatically have them moved to the appropriate division on the points page. All short and long stirrup riders will show in their respective divisions throughout the year, then choose between the Short Stirrup, Long Stirrup or Novice at finals in September. Once at finals, there will be no crossing between divisions. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
DMF Novice Medal/Division:
Open to juniors and amateur adults. All riders must be in their first two years of showing over fences and must never have competed in a class or division with fences higher than 18” anywhere (including pony club, eventing, etc). A rider may not have won more than three classes over fences (excluding poles) in the previous competition year and cannot have won a final over fences anywhere. Fence heights to be 18”. Simple changes of lead are deemed acceptable. (Riders may apply for review under rule #27 if they have shown higher than 18” in the past 3 years or show extenuating circumstances). If a rider wins the medal final, they are no longer eligible to compete in any 18” division at DMF. Riders will show in either short or long stirrup classes to qualify and then choose their division at the Downeast Medal Finals in September.
Riders shall be required to perform over a minimum of six fences with at least one change of direction. Fence height will be 18”. 25% of contestants, at least 2, may be called back for individual testing. Testing optional, verbal recommended.
DMF Mini Medal will now be a 2’ division:
Open to junior and amateur adult riders, competing on horses or ponies. Riders must not have competed higher than 2’ anywhere. All fence heights shall be 2’. Riders shall be required to perform over a minimum of six fences with at least one change of direction. If a rider wins the medal final, they are no longer eligible to compete in this division. 25% of the contestants, at least 2, may be called back for individual testing. Testing is optional.
Downeast Junior Medal:
Open to riders 17 years of age and under, competing on horses or ponies. Riders shall be required to perform over a minimum of six fences with at least one change of direction. Fence heights shall be 2’6”.
