The Importance of Body Conditioning Scoring
Being able to evaluate your horse's Body Condition Score (BCS) is a useful tool for horse owners to evaluate their horse's health. Both underweight and overweight horses have health issues - which can impact their ability to perform well and even limit their ability to reproduce.
Rider Spotlight - Aly Eastman
The 2021 Downeast 18" Hunter Derby was won by Aly Eastman. Let's learn about Aly!

"Hi everyone, my name is Aly Eastman, I live in Parsonsfield, ME. I am in 6th grade. I go to Sacopee Valley Middle School. I have been riding horses since I was 2 1/2 years old. My trainer is Alexandra Nason, owner of Wild Iris Equestrian Center. This is my second time at DMF. I won the walk trot poles medal in 2019 and this year I won the 18" derby as well as the Maine Rider High Point in that derby. My favorite thing about riding is jumping....I love to jump!!!! My favorite thing about my horse is his nose, I love to kiss him on it. Dutch's favorite treats are Mrs. Pasture's & carrots. My future goals in riding are to continue to get better and advance on the height that Dutch & I can jump over."
