Believe it or not, the holiday season is already right around the corner - and there is nothing more magical than winter in the downtown district! Whether you find happiness shopping for the perfect gift or enjoying warm plates with friends, there is plenty to light up your winter spirit in downtown Boulder.

As colder weather draws near, the Boulder County Farmers Market celebrates its final few markets of the season. Don't forget to fill up on fresh foods this Saturday (November 12) and next (November 19). And if you're interested in supporting local produce during the winter months, check out their brand new winter share system.

This season, shop small to make a big impact on your local community. Mark your calendars for Small Business Saturday (Weekend) and head downtown to support the over 80% locally owned and operated businesses in the district. Can't decide on the perfect gift? Share the gift of a Downtown Boulder Gift Card with loved ones - and starting November 25, for every $100 purchased, receive a bonus $10 gift card to a surprise businesses downtown (while supplies last).

Switch on the Holidays

November 20, 2022 I 5 pm

Kick off the holiday season downtown during Switch on the Holidays! This annual event celebrates the start of winter by flipping the switch that illuminates lights along the Pearl Street Mall, Civic Area and around the Boulder County Courthouse.

Enjoy performances by youth and adult members of the Boulder Ballet and special appearances by Santa, Mrs. Claus and downtown's very own Freezie the Snowman! The program starts at 5 pm and concludes with the flip of the switch at approximately 5:20 pm. Outdoor visits with Santa last until 7 pm.

Be sure to come downtown early on November 20 to get a head start on Find Freezie! You could get a FREE plush mini-Freezie to keep (select businesses only), plus you'll be entered to win a $25 Downtown Boulder Gift Card each time you Find Freezie in stores. And beginning November 20, participate in the first day of Snow Much Fun Virtual (AR) Experiences!

Snow Much Fun Virtual (AR) Experiences

November 20, 2022 - January 31, 2023

Explore downtown Boulder through a new lens as you adventure through a self-guided augmented reality (AR) tour of the district. Scan QR codes on each block of the Pearl Street Mall as well as the East End and West End and throughout the Civic Area (near the library) to access fun filters via Instagram. Follow along on this winter wonderland trail and meet dancing gingerbread people, penguins in an igloo and more as you go!

Snap and share photos with friends, and be sure to tag @downtownboulder on Instagram to have your winter adventures re-shared!

Find Freezie

November 20 - December 23, 2022

Participate in Find Freezie and you can enter for a chance to win one of several $25 Downtown Boulder Gift Cards! We encourage children (and adults!) of all ages to participate. Starting November 20, find a Freezie in a downtown business and scan its accompanying QR code. Fill out a short form to be entered to win in WEEKLY drawings! No phone on you? No problem! The Visitor Information Center (1303 Pearl St.) will have an enter-to-win box for those seeking a non-digital option.

Winners will be chosen weekly on Mondays. Play as many times as you'd like - but prizes will be limited to one gift card per player.

On November 20, the following businesses will be handing out FREE plush Freezie snowmen to the first 25 people to ask (while supplies last): Ana's Art Gallery, Art Source International, Boulder Book Store, Boulder Olive Oil Company, Brewing Market Coffee, Capital One Cafe, Crystal Joys, Old Tibet, Pedestrian Shops, Peppercorn, R Gallery + Wine Bar and Trident Booksellers & Cafe.
