Co-Op Marketing Opportunity for Downtown Businesses....

Suffolk Economic Development has partnered with the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts to allow Downtown businesses the opportunity to purchase ad space in their 2023-2024 Playbill at a discounted rate. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business to individuals who might not be familiar with what Downtown Suffolk has to offer. You can elect to advertise your business solely, or you can choose to offer discounts if patrons bring in the Playbill to your store/restaurant. The chose is yours to make!!!

DEADLINE: Friday, August 18, 2023. (To participate, please notify Deanna Holt at dholt@suffolkva.us)

AD SIZE: Please select either: $100 | 2.5" x 2" AD or $200 | 2.5" x 4" ad, normally $500.

FREE DESIGN: Suffolk Tourism will be designing your AD for FREE.

The Downtown Business Association is asking for help as they host their

Second Annual Downtown

National Night Out Event

Tuesday, August 1st from 5:00 - 8:00 PM @

Courthouse Park (located beside the Godwin Courts Building - 150 N. Main St)

This nationally recognized event is where everyone joins together to say "NO" to crime and to strengthen their bonds within the community.

Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Sweets, Sno Cones, Popcorn, Sodas and Water will be provided free of charge.

DJ Shane Dollar will be there providing music. Giant yard games will be available for kids, as well as for kids at heart.

We could use help with some of the following tasks:

*Setup for the event (starting at 3:30 pm)

*Cook hamburgers & hotdogs on the grill provided (starting at 4:30 pm)

*Wrap hamburgers & hotdogs (starting at 4:30 until 7:00 pm)

*Work the Sno Cone machine (5:00 - 8:00 pm)

*Work the Popcorn machine (5:00 - 8:00 pm)

*Breakdown (8:00 - 8:30 pm)

DOWNTOWN SUFFOLK SPOTLIGHT

Downtown businesses are the backbone of our community and we are committed to helping them tell their stories. Downtown Suffolk is proud to have such a unique variety of businesses that provide something for everyone. Most importantly, they all have one thing in common – passion for what they do.

During this month we are shining our spotlight on Cafe Davina. They are located at 231 Pinner Street. Owner, Melody Brown shared the following:

1. Tell us about your business:

Café Dâvina coffee bar and crêperie is a food truck on-site at The Pinner House Boutique Bed and Breakfast. We’re open everyday from 8am-3pm with ample indoor and outdoor seating, featuring italianate water features, lush gardens and historical architecture. We serve craft coffee, teas and specialty beverages, sweet and savory crêpes and more!

2. What inspired you to start your business?

What inspired us to open a third-wave coffee bar is a passion for coffee, having been in the coffee industry for almost a decade. And to serve amazing, quality coffee to our community and hometown.

3. What drew you to Downtown Suffolk?

Downtown Suffolk is home to a rich, diverse and vibrant coffee community. What attracts us to this location is our deep roots to the community. We enjoy serving the espresso purist, the experimental coffee drinkers, and everyone in between.

4. What are your plans and goals for the future of your business?

Some short-term goals for Café Dâvina include: moving the coffee bar into the indoor space in The Pinner House, hosting community events, and expanding our hours and menu.
