Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.
-
Colorado Springs Police Department Chief Vasquez has written an op-ed for the Gazette to talk about how safe the coming speed cameras will make us. Also, it will generate tons of revenue for the city.
-
The article above was clearly the promotion of the program. What’s missing are details. Where can you go for those details? To us, of course. Your loyal watchdogs at Springs Taxpayers United. We have dug into the details for you, and you can learn all about them in our latest original article.
-
This original, and necessary, reporting would not be possible without the generosity of you, our loyal subscribers. We at Springs Taxpayers United thank you for your support, and are always grateful for any support you are able to give.
-
Are you interested in having downtown Colorado Springs look like New York City, or Philadelphia, with giant high-rise buildings everywhere? Neither are we. We encourage all readers to sign the petition opposing high-rise buildings downtown. If you do sign, you will be prompted for a donation request, which you can ignore. As you know, once one high-rise is built, everyone will want one.
-
Supporters of tall apartment buildings in downtown cite demand as a reason for these buildings. Do you agree that there is this much demand for apartments in Apartment City, USA, formerly known as Colorado Springs?
-
Government officials in Colorado Springs will conduct a feasibility study to add a roundabout at the General Palmer statue downtown. They do love their roundabouts.
-
Academy School District 20 Board will be voting on pay increases for teachers and faculty. Who wouldn’t vote themselves a pay increase if they could?
-
El Paso County Commissioners have issued a statement about illegal immigration threatening the welfare of El Paso County citizens. They are supporting a lawsuit challenging two immigration laws recently passed by the state legislature.
-
The City of Colorado Springs is updating guidelines for annexing new areas. Will current citizens be considered in this planning?
-
Security concerns persist at the Penrose Library downtown. Library administrators are now proposing a 7-foot-high security fence, in the hope of mitigating some of these concerns.
-
Denver is attempting to sweep away the tons of illegal immigrants that they once cheerfully invited to the city. These people are being moved from street encampments into shelters. The illegal immigrants also have a list of 13 demands they want the city to meet before they will agree to move into shelters. It’s a standoff, folks.
-
The Colorado Senate has passed a ‘transit-oriented’ housing bill. This is a favorite of Governor Polis, who believes he can micromanage how we live and how we travel. Governor Polis will undoubtedly sign this, to great fanfare. They’re “saving the earth” by dictating how we get to live, folks.
-
Thankfully, the 2024 legislative session has come to an end. There appears to be a great deal of tension between and among the various factions of tyrants in our legislature, which is a good thing. If they are fighting with each other, like nursery school children, this may mitigate their constant attacks on citizens.
-
One new law the legislature did pass is a ban on holding your cell phone and talking while driving. Because we all needed that, apparently. Let’s see how this goes.
-
The 2024 Colorado Springs street paving list is out. Is this your lucky year?
-
If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.
Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
