HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE NORWICH BID

Everything might look little different this year; Santa is not in his Igloo so that everyone can stay safe during the pandemic. Along with our board members, we had some fabulous volunteers come out and help decorate our parks . . . thank you so much to members of the CV Free Church, Jen Westervelt and her family for helping make our parks look beautiful for the holidays. Special thanks to Mike Hayes and Adam Bosworth and family for lighting up the big tree by the Courthouse.

Ken Behn from Pro Audio Consulting added some spectacular touches to make the holiday lights even more special. Pires Flower Basket designed our baskets hanging throughout downtown as well as the fountain in Gordon Park and wreaths on the stage in East Park.

Santa has mailboxes all over town so that children can let him know if they have been naughty or nice. He was at a masked and socially distant event at the Chenango Arts Council on Saturday December 18th and then he rode through town on a Norwich Fire Department Truck to wave to all the children. Thank you Santa!

Lastly, don't forget to check out our downtown merchants for your last minute shopping needs. They need your business more than ever!
To the 2020 Decorate Downtown for the Holidays contest winners. The BID board of Directors voted on businesses that were decorated for the holidays.
It was a tough decision as our downtown is so festive and beautiful this year. The winners are:

1st place: Teasers Hair & Nail Studio
2nd place: Commerce Chenango
3rd place: Minty's Candies & Treats

FROM THE PRESIDENT

When I took the helm as BID President in January of 2020, I thought I had a decent idea on what the year would look like and the goals the Norwich BID could achieve. Then March came, and thus started a new era of uncertainty and worry. The lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented and has affected our district, greatly. In turn, the board members of the Norwich BID wanted to help.
During the lockdown, BID helped raise and provide grant funds to the downtown district with our Downtown Relief Fund, and we were able to distribute over $42,000 to the applicants that had applied.
What impressed me the most, and has inspired me, as well, is the tenacity and creativity the businesses have had to deploy in order to keep their businesses going, to serve the community and to also support each other. That makes me ever so hopeful that our district will survive this pandemic. Our community may be small, but we are definitely mighty – and we rally to help each other when needed. The Norwich BID will continue to look for ways we can assist the district and support them as they continue to navigate these uncharted waters. May 2021 bring better days for all!
