CLEAN & SAFE
Our safety ambassadors regularly go above and beyond to help residents and visitors in their work as extra eyes and ears for our urban neighborhoods. That was certainly the case when safety ambassador Manuel was working in East Village and witnessed an individual swerve and crash his motorcycle. Manuel rushed to the scene and the individual claimed he couldn't breathe. Manuel asked if he would like him to call the paramedics and he said yes. As Manuel was on the phone with 9-1-1, three other witnesses helped pick up his bike and move it out of the street to safety. The fire department and paramedics showed up shortly after to make sure the person received medical attention. We’re grateful Manuel and the helpful members of our community were nearby to help this person in their time of need.
Stephanie had been homeless in Downtown San Diego for over a year and could not get into housing without her social security benefits. She decided to go home where she would have a better support system and contacted the family reunification program. When our team called to follow up, she was excited to share her good news. While living with family, Stephanie has secured her own apartment and is waiting for a move-in date. She also shared that she has become more independent and is grateful to our organization for reconnecting her with her family.
Introducing a captivating addition to Downtown San Diego! International artist and Downtown resident David Feucht brings a bold and breathtaking mural located at 1331 India Street in the Columbia District. Stretching across an 18 feet by 78 feet canvas, the mural is a harmonious blend of vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and evocative imagery of contemporary Downtown San Diego. Feucht's meticulous attention to detail and artistic flair have resulted in a visually striking work of art that will enhance Downtown’s reputation as a hub for arts and culture.

The mural was made possible by the Downtown Partnership Clean & Safe program and the Columbia Community Foundation, who have partnered to improve the neighborhood’s streetscape with new corner planters, custom bike racks, decorative lighting, and pedestrian street signs. ACE Parking and Whitaker Facilities also contributed to the mural installation.
