BIG NEWS: Pianos on State is here, a nd it's the longest run of Pianos on State ever! Celebrate a community collaboration of bridging visual arts, music, performance, and YOU! Pianos are displayed along State Street, in the Funk Zone and at a permanent display at the Santa Barbara Airport.
The pianos become alive with artwork by local artists and impromptu performances by musicians young and old! Check out all 11 locations for the artistically diverse pianos, and plunk out a tune or two, through October 16th.
Holiday Planning Assistance  
Life at the DSB offices ramps up in the Fall - we're planning window decor contests, Downtown Trick or Treat, a creative workshop, Small Business Saturday, monthly 1st Thursday, and of course, the 65th Annual Downtown Santa Barbara Holiday Parade, Presented by Consumer Fire Products!
Here are helpful tips for your Downtown SB Holiday Planning:
 Local performance venues are hosting a plethora of music, dance, lectures and live theater events throughout the Fall - check out schedules for the Arlington Theatre, Lobero Theatre, The Granada Theatre, and Ensemble Theatre Company at the New Vic and plan accordingly. Of special note:  The Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra takes its final bow, after 40 years, on Monday, October 9th. Get your tickets now for the
"Grand Finale at Forty" celebration concert of Mozart, Mendelssohn and more.  
Musical Director Heiichiro Ohyama leads the Chamber Orchestra in a magical musical evening. 
 And of course, there is no better place for shopping or dining during the holidays than
Downtown Santa Barbara. So get busy - lots to do this Holiday season!  

Calling all Boos & Ghouls - It's Halloween! 
Downtown shops, restaurants, galleries and offices are ready to greet Super
Heroes, Princesses, witches, goblins and Lego fans for Downtown Trick-or-Treat! Bring your kids in costume, along with a treat bag, on Tuesday, October 31st (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm). Look for the balloon bundles and the spooky sign in windows for treat-friendly locations.
(Participating businesses will display balloons and window sign, children must be in costume with treat bag, 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm only.)

Downtown Santa Barbara comes alive once a month for  1st Thursday , Presented by Montecito Bank & Trust. This monthly art crawl brings art, music, dance, poetry, demos, lectures, book signings and more to Downtown Santa Barbara streets and historic paseos, and is free for everyone.  
October's theme is "Cuisine/Libations/Wellness."  
Join us in celebrating our vibrant Downtown in the best way we know how - a family-friendly block party! Check out games, local food trucks, crafts, live music by David Segall, and interactive art, courtesy of the Getty. PST: LA/LA Mobile makes Downtown Santa Barbara one of the Southern California stops, providing an exciting glimpse into Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art involving more than 70 cultural institutions, including several Downtown Santa Barbara locations.
  • Pop up with Mr. Nicholas Mayfield to enjoy the art and energy of this Riverside Outsider at Elizabeth Gordon Gallery (15 W. Gutierrez). Outsider art or "art brut" is art produced by self-taught artists who are not part of the artistic establishment. (Hurry - Oct 5-8 only!)
  • Gallery 208 (208 W. Canon Perdido) hosts local artists Christian Garcia-Olivo and Mike Bucci exploring Americentrism and cultural constraints by way of a live performance with a supporting exhibition of Photography, Painting, and Sculpture.
  • Join Keefrider Custom Furniture (434 E. Haley, Unit C) for Wine & Design in the Studio, featuring Lichtenberg Figures: lightening-like fractals burned into wood using high voltages.
  • From abstract wall mounts to beautiful metal clad kitchen tables, GBT Sheet Metal showcases handcrafted metal art at Lady McClintock Studios (1221 State).
  • Join Santa Barbara Museum of Art (1130 State) Teaching Artists for a family-friendly art project, inspired by "Valeska Soares: Any Moment Now." Exhibition is part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA - stop by the PST: LA/LA Mobile truck at the 1st Thursday Block Party (00 block of E. Anapamu).
  • SB Home Design and European Home & Antiques (10 E. Figueroa) features home design and floral decor ideas for the holiday season - meet designer Colleen Macey, floral designer Ruben Pedregon and local artist Nise Baker, while enjoying August Ridge wines.
The Jazz Villains are a sextet youth jazz ensemble between the ages of 13 and 17 that formed in the Notes for Notes Eastside Santa Barbara Studio under Program Director David Rojas. Check out their debut EP, featuring five standards and their original song "Baby, Yes, You Treat Me Right."

Dyslexia Santa Barbara 

  Dyslexia Santa Barbara is dedicated to providing information, resources,  
and support for the 1 in 5 with dyslexia in Santa Barbara and beyond. 

Dyslexia Santa Barbara has a model based on strength, collaboration and creativity, for individuals and organizations in the community.  Dyslexia is a multi-faceted issue that extends far outside schools, and everyone needs to work cooperatively to develop support and create solutions that will benefit the entire community.

 October is Dyslexia Awareness Month nationwide. Join Dyslexia Santa Barbara on Tuesday, October 10th (2:00 pm) when the City of Santa Barbara recognizes October as Dyslexia Awareness Month with a proclamation at City Hall (725 Anacapa St). There will also be a dyslexia installation in the first-floor display case.

Hey, boys and ghouls - World of Magic (400 State) Halloween store is back and packed with costume ideas!...Check out the two-story Sunny Korean Restaurant at 532 state...Now open: Early California Antiques (1331 State), located in the historic Arlington Theatre district... The Yes Store is coming back - be on the lookout in November, opening their 50th store (627 State)!...
