2015 Best Tasting Drinking Water Competition
July 2, 11am-1pm
Schenectady County will host the 2015 Best Tasting Drinking Water Competition at the Downtown Farmers Market. Residents are invited down to taste and judge this friendly competition between our local municipalities.  Last year the Town of Rotterdam won back their title and then went all the way to the State Fair, where they were crowned Best Tasting Drinking Water in New York State. Will they retrain their title?

We invite YOU to help the DSIC bring attention and activity to downtown's beautifully renovated section of Erie Boulevard! The  Chalk It Up! Downtown Schenectady festival will feature sidewalk chalk art created by local artists and members of the community, along with live music, food, and a community area.

Chalk It Up! seeks individual adults and children, as well as teams of four, to create works of art in several categories. View guidelines and an entry form. Your entry form and fee must be submitted to the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation by Friday, July 10.

Hometown Heroes Banners Walking Tour

Take a stroll around beautiful Downtown Schenectady this summer and view 43  Hometown Heroes banners along State Street and around City Hall. The banners honor Schenectady military men and women from the Civil War through today.

Pick up a copy of the Hometown Heroes banner map and bios of many of the program's honorees at the DSIC office, 143 State Street, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. You may also view and download docs online.

Marilynne Robinson to Discuss Latest Book

Marilynne Robinson has received several awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2005 for her book Gilead, plus the 2012 National Humanities Medal. 

This is a joint event with the Schenectady County Public Library and The Open Door Bookstore. The Open Door is offering a 20% discount on the novel prior to July 5. Doors open at 6pm; tickets not required.
