Challenge '22: Updates

One of the best things about our community is the way we come together to help one another in times of need. As many people ask what they can do to help Ukraine, the big hearts of Downtown Syracuse business owners are on display. Below, please find examples of what business owners are doing and how you can help:
The owner of Anatoli Photograffi Studio, is resurrecting his screen printing and embroidery skills to raise awareness and funds for Ukraine. Anatoli Truskalo recently pulled dozens of shirts he created featuring symbols and saying in support of Ukraine out of storage to sell at the studio. Proceeds from sales and donations will be given to Ukrainian women and children living in Ukraine and fleeing the county. Visit the studio at 181 Walton Street ( map) or call Anatoli at 315-254-5454 to make a purchase or donate. Watch the Anatoli Photograffi Studio website for updates – Truskalo plans to launch a GoFundMe account to help with donations in the coming days.
Starting this Thursday, March 10 through Sunday, March 13, Antique Underground will donate 10% of all sales to support Ukrainian refugees.
Cathy's Cookie Kitchen sold limited-edition blue and yellow "Cookies for Ukraine” for $4. All proceeds from the cookie sales were donated to the World Central Kitchen to help feed Ukrainian refugees.
The Everson Museum of Art stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The museum is partnering with Urban Video Project to show Solidarity: #StandWithUkraine on its Community Plaza from dusk to 11:00 pm tonight. The museum put out a call to collect donations for the Syracuse Ukrainian National Home, and will accept donations at the museum this week.
Peace, Love, and Cupcakes is also collecting items to donate to the Syracuse Ukrainian National Home. Earlier this week, the bakery brought over three bags full of donations collected by the community! The Syracuse Ukrainian National Home continues to accept medical supplies such as first aid kits, bandages, medical gloves, tape and other items. Click the image to the right to learn more.

Projex214, a men's retail store located in Hanover Square, donated about 40 clothing items (30 pairs of pants and 10 shirts) to the First Ukrainian Pentecostal Church.
Pure Salon, a hair salon in Armory Square, has committed to donating $200 to support Ukrainian refugees.
Prontofresh, a restaurant in Hanover Square, is donating a portion of its profits to the Voices of Children Foundation, which helps children and families throughout Ukraine by providing emergency psychological assistance and helping with the evacuation process. So far, Prontofresh has donated more than $600 to the Voices of Children Foundation! After hearing about Prontofresh’s effort, The Rail Line and The Evergreen were also inspired to donate to the Voices of Children Foundation. If you’re inclined, you can donate at this link.
Orbis Lounge, a restaurant and bar in Hanover Square, will donate 10% of sales generated from this Wednesday, March 9 through Friday, March 11, to help Ukrainian refugees.
A $5 donation to the Syracuse Cooperative Market will go a long way to help neighbors in Ukraine continue to get co-op goods and services. The Syracuse Cooperative Market, located inside The Salt City Market, will match up to $1,000 in donations, and donate this to COOP Ukraine, a new fund created in partnership by National Cooperative Grocers (NCG) and the Cooperative Foundation’s Disaster Recovery Fund. The Market’s total donation will be matched up to $100,000 through the NCG. The NCG is comprised of more than 380 grocery co-ops. COOP Ukraine is comprised of 15,00 enterprises, 3,000 restaurants, seven hotels, 300 manufacturing businesses and shops, and 300 markets throughout Ukraine. The goal is to maintain operations so that member-owners can continue to rely on co-op goods and services.

Density Moves into the Whitlock Building
Density, a tech startup company that helps businesses track the number of people in a space, celebrated the opening of new space in the Whitlock Building, located along South Clinton Street. Density was founded in 2014 at The Tech Garden. Density created technology that anonymously keeps track of the number of people coming and going from a building using sensors and software. The new space totaling 21,000 square feet, will allow Density to expand its production capabilities to produce up to 400,000 sensors per year. Density has plans to create future offices, labs, warehouse, and a shipping center within the new facility, all located on the first floor of the Whitlock Building. The top two floors are home to 24 residential apartments. The Whitlock Building is the first building to operate free of fossil fuels. Density is the first "unicorn" to emerge from The Tech Garden - the distinction refers to a privately held startup valued at more than $1 billion. It grew quickly during the pandemic as there was a heightened attention to the amount of people in one space at a time.
