Living Windows
Dozens of downtown storefronts will come to life during the 21st annual Living Windows celebration on Thursday, December 12 from 6 to 8 PM. The event includes ice sculpting, carolers, puppet shows, treats, marshmallow roasting with the Burlington Fire Department, crafts, the festival of trees at the Burlington Apartments, storytellers, free horse drawn trolley rides, and much more. Visitors can stop by Santa's Cottage in Nancy Neafie Park, sample some holiday goodies, and do some shopping, too. Thanks to presenting sponsor Pritchard Broadcasting for making the Downtown Partners holiday events possible.
Holiday Shop Hops Continue
Every Thursday evening until Christmas, many downtown merchants will be open late until 8 to fit customers' busy schedules - and we have some special Shop Hops planned for you. On December 5, it's Mrs. Santa's Night Out! Stop by The Beancounter Coffeehouse & Drinkery to buy a special Mrs. Claus hat, then decorate it with holiday bling as you go from place to place. And the final Shop Hop on December 19 is for Making Spirits Bright - sample some holiday cheer at your favorite businesses, and (hopefully) celebrate getting your shopping done!
Retail Pop-Up Shop!
DPI is working with Sarah Hall Unique Designs and Evie Inspired Boutique to present a special pop-up shop this season at 319 Jefferson, the former Law's Jewelers. You might remember their clothing booths from the Jefferson St. Farmers Market. They'll be open on Thursday night Holiday Shop Hops, as well as Saturday the 7th and 21st from 11 AM to 1 PM. Many thanks to building owner Brian Isom of TD&T CPAs and Advisors, P.C. for use of the space, and to DPI Business Development and Design Committee volunteers for getting it ready. Be sure to stop in!
Here Comes Santa Claus!
The jolly old elf himself will be greeting visitors in downtown Burlington at Nancy Neafie Park on the corner of Sixth and Jefferson. Santa will be at his cottage during the Holiday Shop Hops on December 5 and 19 from 6 to 8 PM, as well as during Living Windows. There is no cost, and cameras are welcome. Creating fond memories of downtown for families today helps build support for downtown tomorrow! Many thanks to Carl A. Nelson & Co., Chelsea Stevens, and Andy Bentley for their assistance with Santa's Cottage.
The Latest News...
  • Thanks to the handful of volunteers, sponsor Pritchard Broadcasting, the Des Moines Co. CERT team, Frank Millard & Co., Electronic Applications, Shottenkirk, Standard of Beaverdale, the Optimist Club, and all the participants who took part in the Lighted Holiday Parade. Congratulations to Burlington Baptist Church, Burlington Riverfront Entertainment, and SCC for their prize-winning floats, and an extra shout out to Burlington Riverfront Entertainment for the wonderful tree lighting and decorations by Memorial Auditorium.
  • DPI is close to getting major repair work started on our building at 300 Washington. We understand everyone's frustrations, but it has taken considerable efforts to line up the financing and the contractor. Expect good news soon.
  • Orange Ember has opened its bricks and mortar taqueria in the Schramm Building at 218 Jefferson, and Corked 101 brings a wonderful new wine bar experience to 514 Jefferson this month, too!
  • Many thanks to outgoing Downtown Partners board members Julie Anderson of Hope Haven, Jessica Dean of Great Western Bank, Tyler French of Burlington Bent River Brewing Co., and Doreen Roy of Gypsi and Red Screen Door.
