Business Consultant Visits Downtown
The Iowa Downtown Resource Center has arranged for well-known business consultant Margie Johnson to visit downtown Burlington. Johnson, whose agency ShopTalk has assisted retailers and restaurants for over 30 years, will be conducting one-on-one business visits at no cost. She will also be giving a presentation, "Let's Talk Business," in the Winegard Room of the Partnership offices on Tuesday, June 12 at 8 AM. Independent retailers and restauranteurs - especially downtown - are invited
to attend. The event is free, but please RSVP to 752-6365 by June 8.
Jefferson St. Farmers Market News
The farmers market on Jefferson continues to attract big crowds and more new vendors than ever before, enticing people to enjoy the market and downtown longer. The market is on the 300-500 blocks of Jefferson from 4:30 to 7:30 PM every Thursday except for June 14, when it will move to the 700-800 blocks during Steamboat Days.

On June 28, Des Moines County Living Well will be holding a Living Well Day at the market to highlight some of the unique organizations and services that promote healthy living in our area. Organizations will be available to answer questions or offer education on topics like cycling, prediabetes, elder support, access to healthy foods, child care, reproductive health, and much more. At 7:00 that evening, Des Moines County Living Well is sponsoring the movie Wonder at the Capitol Theater.

A special thanks to Two Rivers Bank & Trust for their valued support of the Jefferson St. Farmers Market.
Outdoor Movies Return to Downtown
Grab a lawn chair and head down to the 5 & V - downtown Burlington's outdoor theater! Four great movies will be shown on the side of Drake Hardware and Software at Fifth and Valley Streets this summer. There's no admission for the events, though donations are accepted. The movies will start at dusk, but be sure to come down early for games and activities - and to pick out a choice spot. There will be snack and drink vendors on
hand, too.

  • Cynapalooza, Steamboat Days, the Snake Alley Art Fair, the Snake Alley Festival of Film - June is the month for big downtown events that draw people from across the region and around the country.
