The American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, or AASHTO, is recognizing the project that follows U.S. 421 through downtown Winston-Salem as a finalist in the 2021 America’s Transportation Awards competition. This is one of just 12 projects nationwide and the only N.C. Department of Transportation project in the finals. The winning project could win the national Grand Prize or the People’s Choice Award, both valued at $10,000 for a charity or transportation-related scholarship of the winners’ choosing.
