Apply Now for PPE and Testing Reimbursement Program Funds From MDA

If you're an independent physician and you haven't applied yet for funds to reimburse your practice for the purchase of personal protective equipment and COVID-19 testing for employees and staff, now is the time.

Independent physicians, nurse practitioners and optometrists may turn in receipts for PPE and testing dating back to March 1, 2020 and be reimbursed for those expenses.

According to the Mississippi Development Authority's program rules, independent physicians, NPs and other providers have $7.125 million available to be reimbursed to them, and 2,850 individuals would qualify. MDA on Wednesday reported that only 474 providers have applied so far, and only $3.1 million has been distributed so far. This means you can still apply and be accepted.

To Do: Establish a Partnership With Your School Superintendent About School-Based Telehealth

Effective August 1, the Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) extended its emergency telehealth coverage to include schools as temporary originating site providers. This makes it possible for schools without school nurses or school-based clinics to access telehealth. The condition is that services must be facilitated by a tele-presenter acting within their scope of practice, license and certification.

DOM's telehealth policy already allowed school-based clinics (staffed by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) to serve as originating sites, but the expanded policy allows any school to be an originating site as long as the distant site provider uses a tele-presenter who meets the definition of Miss. Administrative Code Part 225, Rule 1.1.D. Read The DOM Policy

MAFP Participates in School Telehealth Call With Miss. Department of Education

Tuesday, Sept. 22, the MAFP and other health care organizations, and Dr. Carey Wright, Mississippi Superintendent of Education, took part in a virtual meeting regarding CARES Act funds being used for school telemedicine. Dr. Wright used the call to hear from stakeholders on the topic and discussed how to make the school telemedicine program successful and sustainable. MAFP representatives were Dr. Jennifer Gholson of Summit, Dr. Katie Patterson of Indianola, and Executive Director Beth Embry.
