Dr. Andrew McLean Lecture and Clinic

Kamloops Large Animal Veterinary Clinic welcomes back Dr. Andrew McLean- winner of the highest Australian Science award, the Eureka Prize for Science. Andrew McLean, holds a PhD in equine cognition and learning. He developed and manages the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre, the most internationally recognized horse training and behaviour modification centre.

 In addition to horse training, Dr. McLean began training elephants in Nepal in 2007 and subsequently formed the not-for-profit company "The HELP Foundation" (Human Elephant Learning Programs) for which he is now Senior Vice President. This cooperative project is focused on the optimal management, welfare and training of working elephants in Asia and includes the development and implementation of innovative training techniques based on learning theory and the elimination of punishment.  For more information on Dr. Andrew McLean and his techniques please visit the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre website.   

The August 3rd and 4th clinic will consist of 3 hours of lecture on the Monday morning followed by demonstrations with horse in hand and horse under saddle in the afternoon. Tuesday will be a clinic with 6 sessions of Dr. McLean addressing behaviour modification techniques in specific areas (trailering issues, dressage, jumping issues -ie: rushing etc)

Lunch will be made available for purchase from the Kamloops Pony Club on both days.

Riders looking to participate in the clinic with their horse, please indicate on the registration form experience level and topic you wish to address. Stabling fee is $15 per day/night, stall guard required and shavings available for purchase, please contact TJ Drake (tj@zeventing.ca or 250-819-7913).

Complimentary overnight camping is available at Lanzelot Stables (no hook up)- contact TJ for information.
