Eat Well, Be Healthy!
Dr. Dale's Nov. 2018 Newsletter!
Nov. 21, 2018
 ,
Here we go, the Holidays are here.  Be prepared to opt for healthy choices in between the digressions that are predictable for this time of year.  Please see my Holiday Eating article below for very valuable tips and even some laughs.

Our bars are back!  They can be helpful if you are headed to a party and want to make sure you eat something first so you aren't starving when you get there, which is usually what leads us to make all the wrong choices.

Watch out for the infection season, as the Holidays tend to increase the frequency, which has already ramped up in the past 2 weeks.

And please be sure to enjoy the Holiday with family and/or friends.
Cold and Flu Season Update and Protocols
We are now into the 3rd month of Cold and Flu Season and as reported in my last newsletter, so far, so good!  The season continues to be relatively mild in degree, and varying in frequency of infections.  Warning, in the past week we have seen a significant spike in the number of new infections.

Our protocols, when used properly, are getting the job done quite efficiently. Those who are prepared and jumped into action at the first sign of an infection have been able to stop it in it's tracks!  More and more of our patients have become well trained, resulting in easier cold and flu seasons in recent years.   The key to this kind of success is to be prepared!  That means having the products from Dr. Dale's Immune Protocols on hand to start taking at the first sign of an infection.   This is the most important step you can take to minimize the chances of any infection really setting you back.

If you want to maximize your resistance to getting sick at all, follow my Infection Prevention Protocol that is also on our Immune Refrigerator Page.

Here is my  Immune Refrigerator Page so it's easy to know what to do right away. Please be sure to  open the attachment, print it out and place it on your refrigerator.

Warning!  Very Important: Do not stop your Cold or Flu protocol prematurely. Oftentimes when you get on top of an infection right away, you can feel like you are all better within a few days.  However, even though you have no symptoms, the bugs are still hanging around; it's just that your immune system is winning the battle. Stopping your protocol too soon can allow the infection to come back with a vengeance and often the second round is harder than the first to get on top of.  So, continue your protocol for at least 2 weeks of being symptom free before stopping it.

Why Organic Foods are More Important than Ever!
Recent research has highlighted that glyphosate, the chemical used in the weedkiller,  RoundUp, is now commonly found in many different foods and in the urine of 93% of Americans tested.

The most common group are those foods that are genetically modified, or GMO's.  Many of the GMO foods are developed to specifically withstand greater amounts of glyphosate, so they can use more on them to keep the weeds away without killing or damaging the plants.  Of course this means more of this chemical in your food.

The  World Health Organization has classified glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic."  And a recent lawsuit involving a school groundskeeper who developed cancer after using roundup on the schools grounds many times per year, resulted in a very large jury award associating his terminal Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma from his exposure to Roundup.

We can't easily know what foods are GMO, or what foods are exposed to Roundup. However, the easiest way to avoid this potentially dangerous chemical is to Eat Organic foods whenever possible.  This will reduce your risk of being exposed to Roundup and for sure lower your exposure dosage and quantity in your body.  That can only be a good thing.
Our Bars are Back and with a Special Deal
Our Bio-Genesis Ultra Lean and Low Carb Bars are back in stock!  There was a long stretch of having no bars, as they were being reformulated for better results.

They are now back and we have a full compliment of flavors.  The Bio-Genesis Bars have always been considered the best tasting of all the professional supplement companies.  And the new batch are considered as good or better tasing.

We have UltraLean Bars and Ultra Carb Manager Bars. They are all Gluten Free, rich in an array of nutrients, including a high amount of Potassium and a low amount of Sodium.  Many bars on the market depend on sodium as a significant taste enhancer.  Most of the bars have at least 5 grams of fiber and include 9-13 grams of protein.

A half a bar is perfect as a snack for holding you over until your next meal, or in a pinch a whole bar can be considered a low cal meal.

Please stop by to taste test the bars from now until Christmas and take advantage of our Product of the Month Special pricing of bars during that same time period.
Very Important New Omega and Vitamin D Research -
The VITAL Study
VITAL, the VITamin D and omegA-3 triaL, recently released the findings from their large, ongoing study into the health benefits of Vitamin D and Omega-3's.  Their research once again shows significant benefits in key areas of cancer and heart disease from taking the Omega's EPA/DHA and Vitamin D3.  Oddly enough, all the headlines I saw inferred No Significant Benefit from these products. More on that later.

For now, the important details:  The doses used in the study were low relative to what the experts in each field commonly recommend.  Daily Vit. D3 intake was 2000 I.U.'s, vs. the recommended 5,000 I.U.'s.  For the omega's, they administered 840 mg. of EPA/DHA combined, vs. the minimum recommendation of 1,600 - 2,000 mg.'s. So, in both instances, less than half of what I and the experts in these fields recommend for most people was used. In spite of this there were still some very significant benefits.

In the Vitamin D group, even though there was no decrease in the frequency of new cancers (not surprising over the short time period of 5 years), there was a dramatic reduction in deaths of 25% for those who took 2,000 I.U.'s of vitamin D!

In the Omega 3 group, there was a 28% decease in Heart Attack Risk!

These are very impressive results in medical research.  Let me say that if there was a new drug that reduced deaths in patients with cancer by 25%, there would be huge headlines and it would be considered a blockbuster drug.  However, the headlines mostly read: No CVD or Cancer Benefit from Vit. D, Omega 3's (Medscape); Supplements of Omega-3's or Vitamin D Do Not Reduce CVD or Cancers (MDMag); Vitamin D and Fish Oil Supplements Mostly Disappoint (NPR).

"Both trials were negative," says Dr. Lawrence Fine, chief of the clinical application and prevention branch of the  National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute , a part of the National Institutes of Health, which funded the studies.

Victoria Taylor, senior dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, wrote in an email, "We don't recommend taking vitamin and mineral supplements to prevent heart and circulatory disease, and this study's findings support our advice.

Of course their responses are purely those of drug focused medical professionals, whose primary intention is to minimize or negate any benefit from supplements.

Omega 3 Fish Oils: Why, Which, for Whom and How Much?
Dr. Dale's Very Important Holiday Eating Guidelines!
Once again we are fast approaching the one meal of the year that Americans most commonly associate with "Being Stuffed." Yes, that feeling that you can barely move. The only thing most people can do after this meal is sit in a large chair and try to keep their eyes open for more than ten minutes.

The good news is there is a simple solution that allows you to have your cake (rather, pie) and eat it, too. Here are the keys to surviving Thanksgiving and Christmas or Hanukah, without feeling like a "Stuffed Turkey" yourself and without gaining any significant amount of fat!

1.  Make sure the meal has lots of different tasty veggies that you love. I like to do variations on the traditional themes. For instance, I often make a mix of roasted onions with a balsamic glaze instead of the usual creamed onions.

2.  If you are having wine or other alcohol on this day, wait to have some of your meal before starting in on your "drink of choice," or at least have an appetizer first. Drinking before you start eating will go right to your head, which will greatly increase your odds of losing all dietary control. A little food in your stomach first, plus some self control regarding how much you drink, and you are much more likely to stay "un-sauced and un-stuffed." Another valuable tip if imbibing is to drink a glass of water after every glass of alcohol.

In Closing
It's that time of the year to reflect on what we are thankful for.  For me; you, my patients, are always very high on my list.  I'm grateful for your trust in me and your commitment to your health and well being.  It is not always easy to make all the right choices when it comes to our lifestyle, but your follow-up and follow through do yield benefits in the long run.

I have been in a number of situations recently where I have seen too many examples of the outcomes of people who are not at all focused on Creating a Lifetime of Wellness and it is a sad and frightful sight at times.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to support you in your quest for a long and healthy life.
