Gretchen Abney, Ph.D., Named Director of Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership Program at Life Pacific University

Life Pacific University is pleased to announce that Dr. Gretchen Abney has been appointed as the new Director of the Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership (MASL) program, effective July 2025.

Dr. Abney brings nearly three decades of ministry experience, a deep connection to LPU’s mission, and a strong academic foundation that uniquely qualifies her to lead the university’s flagship graduate program.

Dr. Abney has served in various pastoral roles including worship, youth, children’s, and as an ordained co-pastor. Since 2021, she has served as Campus Life Director at LPU’s Virginia campus and is also the creator and coordinator of Cultivate, a

7-month leadership development program for women in ministry. Dr. Abney holds an MA in Strategic Leadership and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership.

“We believe Gretchen is the right leader for the Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership during this season,” said Dr. Daniel Ruarte, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. “She is a graduate herself and has experienced firsthand the value and strengths of our first-ever graduate program. The MASL is a special treasure for LPU and has been instrumental for hundreds of pastors and organizational leaders who have graduated in the last two decades. The program is needed, and we believe Dr. Gretchen Abney has the leadership skills and capacity to take our MASL program to the next level! We pray for wisdom and guidance as she enters this new role. Congratulations!”

Sara Huson, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing, added:

“Dr. Abney’s appointment is a full-circle moment for Life Pacific. Her leadership, authenticity, and heart for equipping the next generation of leaders is exactly what this program—and this moment—calls for. As an alumna and longtime ministry practitioner, she embodies the transformational impact of the MASL and will carry that vision forward with strength and clarity.”

The Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership is a fully online, accredited graduate program designed to equip leaders in ministry, nonprofits, and organizational settings with the tools they need to lead effectively and with purpose. With a legacy of serving hundreds of graduates over the past 20 years, the MASL continues to be one of LPU’s most impactful programs.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Gretchen Abney on this well-deserved appointment.
