Dr. Heidi Lovett recognized by the USA Triathlon Association Power Within

NEW ORLEANS - Congratulations to our very own Dr. Heidi Lovett who has been recognized by the USA Triathlon Association Power Within. Her story will be shared on by USA Triathlon on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube). The USA Triathlon is an athletic governing body which promotes and protects athletes’ rights safety and wellness. This week is triathlon week where people, like Dr. Lovett participate in races where an individual swims, runs, and bikes a preset distance. Locally, Dr. Lovett is an ambassador with Black Girls Run! New Orleans. She is also a member of three triathlon clubs The Steel MagNOLAs, Hype Or Die Endurance Club and FastChix. In her professional career, Dr. Heidi Lovett serves as the Secretary of the American Association of University Women of the State of Louisiana and health advocate volunteer with the Louisiana Department of Health. She is a former board member of the YWCA and the New Orleans Track Council.
Dr. Heidi Lovett was tenured as a member of the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies at Dillard University. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching. While working at Dillard University, Dr. Lovett received the 2nd largest grant funds awarded by the Louisiana Board of Regents. She is also a former member of the Orleans Parish School Board from 2005-2009. Dr. Lovett was elected to represent New Orleans East and the Lower 9th Ward. In her capacity as the vice President and Chairperson of the Student Achievement Committee, Dr. Lovett created the 1st Student Achievement Recovery Plan which was adopted by the Louisiana Department of Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. She has served as a math teacher and education consultant.

Announces 2021 Virtual Daytime and Nighttime Line-Up

June 24, 2021 (New York, N.Y.)—ESSENCE, the leading and only 100% Black-owned media, technology and commerce company at scale dedicated to Black women and communities, announces its daytime and nighttime schedule for its virtual 2021 ESSENCE Festival of Culture Presented by Coca-Cola—the world’s largest cultural, entertainment and empowerment experience. With the theme “Live Loud,” ESSENCE curated an invaluable hybrid experience that offers the best of in-person and virtual worlds via a celebration of the resilience, power and achievement of Black communities and the omnipresence of our culture. Under strict adherence to guidance from local health agencies, ESSENCE produced live-to-tape activations in early June available only to New Orleans and Louisiana residents honoring essential workers and first responders. As a result, the entire Festival will present a “taste of New Orleans” with a full schedule of can’t-miss content centered around culture, equity and celebration—and a tribute to the city that the Festival has always called home. It will be broadcast on ESSENCEStudios.com and ESSENCE.com–Friday-Sunday over two weekends, June 25-27 and July 2-4. City Park Announces Carousel Gardens Amusement Park Reopening and 3rd of July Celebration:

After halting operations during Covid-19 pandemic, City Park’s Carousel Gardens Amusement Park will reopen to the public on July 3rd with a preview day for first responders on July 2nd, kicking off a weekend full of fun in the Park.

NEW ORLEANS – (June 23, 2021) – New Orleans City Park announces a weekend of celebrations on July 2nd and 3rd, featuring the reopening of the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, a salute to first responders and a spirited gathering of members of our community for an early Fourth of July celebration featuring a free musical performance and fireworks.
Reopening events include:
- July 2, 2021 – Carousel Gardens Amusement Park open to first responders from 11 am – 6 pm.
- July 3, 2021 – Carousel Gardens Amusement Park reopens to the public from 11 am – 6 pm.
- July 3, 2021 – 3rd of July Celebration presented by Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn from 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm.
First responders will exclusively experience the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park a day early, free of charge, where the Park will thank them for their heroic efforts this past year. First responders must register in advance and admission will be limited. The Amusement Park officially opens to the public on Saturday, July 3.

“Reopening the beloved Carousel Gardens Amusement Park is a great testament to the work of our team and the support of our community,” said Cara Lambright, City Park CEO. “We are looking forward to thanking our first responders with early access to the Amusement Park and we can’t wait to welcome back visitors of all ages who have missed the rides tremendously over the past year.”
Alongside the reopening of the Amusement Park, City Park welcomes the return of its annual 3rd of July Independence Day Celebration presented by the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust, following the 2020 cancellation. The event will take place on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn, complete with food trucks, fireworks, a performance by the Marine Forces Reserve Band and the National Anthem sung by Robin Barnes. This free community event will bring people together from across the region.
“We are coming out of a hard year and this event is a special show of unity as a state, and pride for our country, as Louisianians are proving once again our resilience and strength together,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards, Governor of Louisiana.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early with chairs, blankets and picnics, while donning their red, white and blue.
