The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was formed in 1909 by a group of black and white citizens, in response to injustices that many Americans confronted solely because of race. Today, the NAACP, the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the world, continues to focus major efforts on equality, increasing voter registration, educational excellence and individual responsibility, thus creating an infrastructure for economic and social development and new effective ways to develop young leaders.
