Dear Lake Forest High School,
What a beautiful Friday afternoon at the end of an action-filled week! Our Scouts celebrated their peers in our annual ELS Game yesterday, and our competition gym was absolutely electrified with energy! They even did a wave around the gym, and when one of our players made a half court shot–what a moment it was! What I noticed most was not only how our Scouts were supporting each other as fans, but seeing the selflessness of the players, taking turns making shots, being courteous and allowing others to “try,” and cheering on each other, no matter which side you were on–well, it is further evidence of just how wonderful of a community we are, and yet another reason for a new principal to feel blessed beyond words!
This past Wednesday, we celebrated our Students of the Third Quarter. This is such a beautiful event, and hearing about the tremendous accomplishments of these Scouts is a great way to start a day; even better, hearing so many of the same characteristics–service, care, compassion, drive, resilience, and so much more. We have a list and short narrative about our awardees below–enjoy!
Speaking of gifts, I received an awesome one this week–a new Lake Forest High School guitar. I have written about our guitar making (and playing) course before, but I was thrilled when I was invited down to accept my very own. I took to social media with my new guitar “skills,” but I am mostly thankful to have been thought of and given this beautiful gift.
I attended my first Boys Water Polo and J/V Badminton games this week, and we welcomed our Spanish families yesterday evening. With so many other sports in play, as well as our clubs and activities in full swing, it is going to be a busy spring, for sure!
Please remember, we are off next Friday for our other built-in emergency snow day! Next week, be on the lookout for our National Merit Finalists, and we have a National Merit Scholarship winner as well!

Six Flags Hiring Event
Six Flags is having a hiring event on April 2. Must pass a background check and be 15 years to be considered for employment.

Attendance
As a reminder, when students are in the school building they are expected to be in their assigned class for the period. Parents are not allowed to excuse students from a class so that they can be somewhere else in the building. If a student needs to be elsewhere, it should be approved by the classroom teacher and/or their dean. When a student is not in their assigned class without school permission (i.e. taking a test instead of going to math), it is considered an unexcused absence.

SAT Suite 2022
On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, per the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidelines, Lake Forest High School will administer the SAT Suite of Assessments. This is comprised of:
- The SAT for all LFHS juniors (state of Illinois graduation requirement). Current seniors that did not complete this requirement last year will be required to sit for this assessment.
- The PSAT10 for all LFHS sophomores.
- The PSAT9 for all LFHS 9th graders.
Assessments Details:
- Students should arrive between 7:30 am-7:45 am. Standard test time students should expect to be done around noon. Students with accommodations that allow for extra time may go later into the afternoon.
- This is a day of non-attendance for seniors, except for those who did not sit for the SAT last school year.
- Students are required to bring their ID and present it to the proctor in their testing room.

As always, bring several #2 pencils (not mechanical), as well as a calculator. Here is the CollegeBoard SAT Calculator Policy: SAT Calculator Policy
During the Assessment:
- Students are allowed to bring in water and/or a small snack (granola bars will be provided) to have during the provided breaks. These items must be stowed away during testing and remain away from testing materials at all times
- Students are required to remain in their testing rooms throughout the duration of the test. and not wander the building.
- Students within each testing location must stay in that space until their entire room has completed the assessment.
- Mobile phones and wearable devices (ie. Smart Watches) must be turned off and stowed away throughout the duration of the assessment. Students may NOT use their devices during breaks or at any time in the testing room.
After the Assessment:
- There are no classes on this day. Students will be dismissed upon the conclusion of the assessment. Further information about transportation will be shared in next week’s Friday Fanout.
- As with any standardized test, each testing room will not finish at the same time. Students should kindly be mindful of other classmates testing when they are released.

A New Group for Parents and Guardians in
Districts 65, 67 and 115
SAVE THE DATE - April 6, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Administration Center Board Room, 300 South Waukegan Road, In Person and Online. Parents/guardians of ALL learners in Districts 65, 67 and 115 are invited to join administrators and other faculty members from our three Districts to share information, advocate for students, provide education and support, and seek feedback regarding District services. Lunch will be served. Details to follow!
Summer School
DRIVERS EDUCATION
LFHS families wishing to register their student for Summer School Drivers Education are encouraged to do so by the end of the weekend as this course will open on Monday, April 4th to all families within our District who’s students attend other schools.

Bailey, Jacob
Jacob is a senior who works hard. He is kind, compassionate, and really focused on graduation as well as pursuing his post-secondary goals. We are so proud of all of his accomplishments. Jacob is working towards becoming a certified EMT-B at Tech Campus. Jacob has been an active member of the LF swim team, and also holds a part-time job locally.

Brown, Quinn
Quinn is a dedicated freshman, focusing on learning and growing, and he makes decisions that put him in a position to be his best self in the class.

Clayton, Adra
Adra has worked hard to build her wheel throwing skills. She will often come in during her study hall to throw. She has gained the confidence to throw larger and more complex forms.

|
Darling, Chloe
Chloe has shown consistent dedication to always doing her best and to being a positive member of her classroom community throughout her years of French at LFHS. She is a quiet but effective leader who gives 100% and encourages the best from her classmates. She is kind, respectful and considerate with her teachers and her peers. Chloe has also done a phenomenal job taking care of responsibilities with French Club!

Gibbons, Annie
Annie is a role model for all students in Wellness for Life. Annie takes it upon herself to make our classroom a supported and inclusive environment. Annie's initiative has encouraged other students to do the same, she has truly been a leader within our class.

Hairston, Leo
In AP Seminar, Leo was one of the most hard-working, inquisitive students in the class. He gave 100 percent effort in everything he did. As a senior he has this same attitude, but intensified. He took AP Government because he wanted to learn more about the world and challenge himself. He is always ready to go, he leads class discussions, and he has an amazing attitude. He is very kind and helpful to classmates and me. Leo is attending Johns Hopkins next year to play baseball. We are so proud of him, especially because he is continuing to manifest a high level of effort and enthusiasm as his high school career winds down.

Moore, Ellie
Ellie has demonstrated such a kind heart and empathy for her classmates in Algebra 2. When a student recently joined the class Ellie immediately took it upon herself to help the student feel welcomed and to acclimate in the learning. Additionally she is consistently working to improve her understanding of the material as well as to help those around her.

Pierce, Megan
Megan is the top student in her chemistry class, goes out of her way for others, and can always be trusted to do the right thing.
|
|
Radzely, Devin
Devin is as genuine as it gets. He is kind, thoughtful, always respectful and generous. He is incredibly bright and hard working. This year he is a National Merit Finalist! His academic credentials are highly impressive, but what impresses me most about Devin is his selfless and kind nature as a student. Devin is the kid in class that helps his classmate who might be struggling. Devin does this without being asked and never draws attention to his thoughtful acts of kindness.
Devin also has a passion for Robotics and Design. He loves all things Robotics and he is a future engineer. The number of hours that Devin has dedicated to Robotics over the past 4 years are countless. He is an incredible designer, fabricator and coder. Equally impressive though are Devin’s leadership skills on the Robotics team. Devin is such a thoughtful leader. It’s common for Devin to ask for the opinions of his teammates first before providing his opinion. He wants his teammates to feel heard, respected, and valued. He especially looks out for the younger students on the team, knowing they are the key to the future success of the team.
Devin is thankful to have the opportunity to work in a high tech Robotics lab each day at LFHS, but he is also fully aware that many students are not granted the same opportunities elsewhere. Wanting to spread his love of Robotics to others, Devin started a Robotics team for students in foster care. This was no easy task, but in true Devin fashion, he was able to pull it off and have a meaningful impact on his students. Thank you for always thinking of others. It’s such a great quality. Devin will be graduating from LFHS in a couple of short months. It’s been such a pleasure working with such a talented, humble and amazing student.

Interested In Medical School?
Are you looking to attend medical school? Are you interested in medical school, but are unsure about the process?
On Tuesday, April 5, Career Connections will be hosting a Medical Student Panel from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. There will be six students discussing the medical school application process, how they prepared for their specialty in medical school, as well as opening up the panel to questions from the students. The panel will take place during A, B, and C lunch, so students can sign up to attend any of the sessions during their lunch or complete the sign-in at the event to be excused from class. Please meet in room 109 to attend.

ELS Basketball Game
We had our ELS basketball game on Thursday. Our Scouts cheered on our ELS teams, cheerleaders cheered their hearts out, and our band played with pride for the students, staff and families. We had the best time coming together and making great memories with our students.

Earth Month Kickoff (LF Market Square)
The City of Lake Forest is heading up this event on Sunday, April 3rd from 12-4pm in Market Square and is a kickoff for Lake Forest's Earth Month. Throughout the month there will be environmental theme weeks and activities this being the first event. There will be speakers sharing bike safety tips, travel tips, a Wildlife Discovery Center exhibit, Motivational Speaker (Joey FineRhyme), the band Sugar Weather which is made up of Juniors and Seniors from Lake Forest High School will play at 3:00 PM. Elawa Farm, Lake Forest Library, Lake Forest Open Lands, Green Minds LFLB, Gorton Community Center, and SWALCO are all participating. Estimada Familias de Lake Forest High School,
¡Qué hermosa tarde de viernes al final de una semana llena de acción! ¡Nuestros Scouts celebraron a sus compañeros en nuestro juego ELS anual ayer, y nuestro gimnasio de competencia estaba absolutamente electrificado con energía! Incluso hicieron una ola alrededor del gimnasio, y cuando uno de nuestros jugadores hizo un tiro de media cancha, ¡qué momento fue! Lo que más noté no fue solo cómo nuestros Scouts se apoyaban entre sí como fanáticos, sino también ver el desinterés de los jugadores, turnarse para hacer tiros, ser corteses y permitir que otros "intentan" y animándonos unos a otros, sin importar de qué lado. usted estaba en... bueno, es una prueba más de lo maravillosa que somos como comunidad, ¡y otra razón más para que una nueva directora se sienta bendecida más allá de las palabras!
Este pasado miércoles celebramos a nuestros Estudiantes del Tercer Trimestre. Este es un evento tan hermoso, y escuchar sobre los tremendos logros de estos Scouts es una excelente manera de comenzar el día; aún mejor, escuchar tantas de las mismas características: servicio, atención, compasión, impulso, resiliencia y mucho más. Tenemos una lista y una breve descripción de nuestros premiados a continuación, ¡disfrútelos!
Hablando de regalos, recibí uno increíble esta semana: una guitarra nueva de Lake Forest High School. He escrito sobre nuestro curso de fabricación (y ejecución) de guitarras antes, pero me emocionó mucho cuando me invitaron a aceptar el mío. Llegué a las redes sociales con mis nuevas "habilidades" con la guitarra, pero sobre todo estoy agradecida que hayan pensado en mí y me hayan dado este hermoso regalo.
Asistí a mis primeros juegos de polo acuático masculino y bádminton J/V esta semana, y ayer por la noche recibimos a nuestras familias españolas. Con tantos otros deportes en juego, así como nuestros clubes y actividades en pleno apogeo, ¡seguro que será una primavera ocupada!
¡Recuerde que el próximo viernes no hay escuela, es el día de nieve de emergencia incorporado! La próxima semana, esté atento a nuestros Finalistas Nacionales de Mérito, ¡y también tenemos un ganador de la Beca Nacional de Mérito!

Bailey, Jacob
Jacob es un estudiante de último año que trabaja duro. Es amable, compasivo y realmente enfocado en la graduación, así como en la consecución de sus objetivos posteriores a la secundaria. Estoy muy orgulloso de todos sus logros. Jacob está trabajando para convertirse en un EMT-B certificado en Tech Campus. Jacob ha sido un miembro activo del equipo de natación de LF, también tiene un trabajo de medio tiempo a nivel local. Estamos muy orgullosos de él.

Ellie ha demostrado un corazón tan amable y empatía por sus compañeros de clase en Álgebra 2. Cuando un estudiante se unió recientemente a la clase, Ellie inmediatamente se encargó de ayudar al estudiante a sentirse bienvenido y aclimatarse en el aprendizaje. Devin es tan genuino como parece. Es amable, atento, siempre respetuoso y generoso.
Devin también es increíblemente brillante y trabajador. ¡Este año es Finalista del Mérito Nacional! Sus credenciales académicas son muy impresionantes, pero lo que más me impresiona de Devin es su naturaleza desinteresada y amable como estudiante. Devin es el niño de la clase que ayuda a su compañero de clase que podría estar teniendo dificultades. Devin hace esto sin que se lo pidan y nunca llama la atención sobre sus considerados actos de bondad.
Devin también tiene una pasión por la robótica y el diseño. Le encanta todo lo relacionado con la robótica y es un futuro ingeniero. La cantidad de horas que Devin ha dedicado a la robótica en los últimos 4 años es innumerable. Es un increíble diseñador, fabricante y codificador. Sin embargo, igualmente impresionantes son las habilidades de liderazgo de Devin en el equipo de robótica. Devin es un líder tan reflexivo. Es común que Devin pida primero la opinión de sus compañeros de equipo antes de dar su opinión. Quiere que sus compañeros de equipo se sientan escuchados, respetados y valorados. Se preocupa especialmente por los estudiantes más jóvenes del equipo, sabiendo que son la clave para el éxito futuro del equipo.
Devin está agradecido de tener la oportunidad de trabajar en un laboratorio de robótica de alta tecnología todos los días en LFHS, pero también es plenamente consciente que muchos estudiantes no tienen las mismas oportunidades en otros lugares. Queriendo difundir su amor por la robótica a otros, Devin comenzó un equipo de robótica para estudiantes en hogares de crianza. Esta no fue una tarea fácil, pero al más puro estilo Devin, pudo lograrlo y tener un impacto significativo en sus alumnos. Gracias por pensar siempre en los demás. Es una gran calidad.
Devin se graduará de LFHS en un par de meses. Ha sido un placer trabajar con un estudiante tan talentoso, humilde e increíble.

Evento de Empleo de Six Flags
Six Flags tendrá un evento de empleo el 2 de abril. Debe pasar una verificación de antecedentes y tener 15 años para ser considerado para empleo.

Asistencia
Como recordatorio, cuando los estudiantes están en el edificio de la escuela, se espera que estén en su clase asignada durante el período. Los padres no pueden excusar a los estudiantes de una clase para que puedan estar en otro lugar del edificio. Si un estudiante necesita estar en otro lugar, debe ser aprobado por el maestro del salón de clases y/o su decano. Cuando un estudiante no está en su clase asignada sin permiso de la escuela (es decir, tomando un examen en lugar de ir a matemáticas), se considera una ausencia injustificada.

Examen SAT Suite 2022
El miércoles 13 de abril de 2022, según las pautas del Consejde Educación del Estado de Illinois (ISBE), Lake Forest High School administrará el SAT Suite of Assessments. Esto se compone de:
- El SAT para todos los estudiantes del tercer año de LFHS (requisito de graduación del estado de Illinois). Los estudiantes de último año actuales que no completaron este requisito el año pasado se le pedirá que estén presente para esta evaluación.
- El PSAT10 para todos los estudiantes de segundo año de LFHS.
- El PSAT9 para todos los estudiantes de primer año de LFHS.
Evaluaciones Detalles:

Durante la Evaluación:
- Los estudiantes pueden traer agua y/o un refrigerio pequeño (se proporcionarán barras de granola) para tomar durante los descansos proporcionados. Estos artículos deben guardarse durante el examen y mantenerse alejados de los materiales de examen en todo momento.
- Se requiere que los estudiantes permanezcan en sus salas de examen durante la duración del examen. y no vagar por el edificio.
- Los estudiantes dentro de cada ubicación de prueba deben permanecer en ese espacio hasta que toda su habitación haya completado la evaluación.
- Los teléfonos móviles y dispositivos portátiles (es decir, relojes inteligentes) deben estar apagados y guardados durante la duración de la evaluación. Los estudiantes NO pueden usar sus dispositivos durante los descansos o en cualquier momento en la sala de pruebas.
Después de la Evaluación:
- No hay clases este día. Los estudiantes serán despedidos al final de la evaluación. Se compartirá más información sobre el transporte en el Friday Fanout de la próxima semana.
- Al igual que con cualquier prueba estandarizada, cada sala de prueba no terminará al mismo tiempo. Los estudiantes deben tener en cuenta las pruebas de otros compañeros de clase cuando salgan.

RESERVE LA FECHA: 6 de abril, 11:30 - 12:30

Escuela de Verano
Educación de Conductor

El martes 5 de abril, Career Connections organizará un panel de estudiantes de Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science . Habrá seis estudiantes discutiendo el proceso de solicitud de la escuela de medicina, cómo se prepararon para su especialidad, y abriendo el panel para preguntas de los estudiantes. El panel se llevará a cabo durante el almuerzo A, B y C, por lo que los estudiantes pueden inscribirse para asistir a cualquiera de las sesiones durante su almuerzo o completar el registro en el evento para ser excusado de la clase. Reúnase en el salón 109 para asistir.

Juego de Baloncesto de ELS
Tuvimos nuestro juego de baloncesto ELS el jueves. Nuestros Scouts animaron a nuestros equipos de ELS, las cheerleaders animaron con todo su corazón y nuestra banda tocó con orgullo para los estudiantes, el personal y las familias. Pasamos el mejor momento reuniéndonos y haciendo grandes recuerdos con nuestros estudiantes.

Inicio del Mes de la Tierra (LF Market Square)
La ciudad de Lake Forest encabeza este evento el domingo 3 de abril de 12 a 4 p. m. en Market Square y es el inicio del Mes de la Tierra de Lake Forest. A lo largo del mes habrá semanas temáticas ambientales y actividades siendo este el primer evento. Habrá oradores que compartirán consejos de seguridad para andar en bicicleta, consejos de viaje, una exhibición del Centro de Descubrimiento de Vida Silvestre, el orador motivacional (Joey FineRhyme), la banda Sugar Weather, compuesta de estudiantes de tercer y cuarto año de Lake Forest High School, tocará a las 3:00 p. m. Elawa Farm, Lake Forest Library, Lake Forest Open Lands, Green Minds LFLB, Gorton Community Center y SWALCO están participando.
