Principal’s Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
Happy Friday–and this is the second-to-the-last Fanout of the 2021-2022 school year! For those of you who have grown accustomed to these weekly messages, we will be breaking for the summer, but I will be communicating periodically with updates and reminders for our Scout families next year.
New Website
This summer, District 115 plans to launch a new website! Our team has been hard at work, and we have been planning alongside the development team to ensure that timely information is front and center–as well as images of our Scouts. Please be on the lookout this summer.
Confidential Reporting Tool
Here is a reminder of our confidential reporting tool. It is always on our website for our Scout community to let us know concerns, and here is the link to a slideshow explaining how it is used to support our students.
Student Demonstrations
A few Fanouts ago, I had written about student demonstrations and protests, and namely, the Tinker versus Des Moines Supreme Court ruling–explicitly citing that students do not lose their First Amendment Rights when they come to school, unless there is a material and substantial disruption. With this in mind, it is also important to note that in exercising their First Amendment freedoms, school attendance policies and guidelines are in place.
Please be aware that LFHS’s campus is not an open, public forum for demonstrations and/or protests.
Celebrations
With Honors Night, final music concerts, final senior nights, and banquets on the horizon, please check out the rest of the Fanout for more information! With the final Fanout next week, if you have any additional Scout information or Scout celebrations to be shared, we would love to hear from you!
Wishing you all the best,

Students of the Quarter
Congratulations to the following students awarded Students of the Quarter.
Bailey, Henry
Henry is a vital member of our Grammar & Composition Honors class. As a gifted writer and creative thinker, he shares his love for both by engaging in meaningful conversations with his peers and me. In these conversations, he uses his best tools: intellect, honesty, and a sharp sense of humor.
I enjoy not only reading Henry’s work but also talking about his writing. He is always looking for ways to stretch himself and grow his craft. Henry is a beautiful writer, a conscious observer, a kind classmate, and a soulful human being.
Good things are coming for Henry Bailey, and I — for one — cannot wait to see what the future holds for him. -Carolyn Konz
Bradley, Katie
Katie is extremely hard working. I have seen her work ethic for two years. Spanish does not come easily for her and she continues to work and grow with a positive attitude and with an eye on individual growth. -Drea Serrato
Cathlina, Will
Will's grit and perseverance have been outstanding to observe in AA this year. He has shown a commitment to their learning that we hope each student would take. -Andrea Lemke
Ferretti, Rocco
Rocco is a great role model and a great leader for the Freshman. Each and everyday he comes to class with a great attitude, and encourages positive behavior from his peers. Rocco goes above and beyond to make sure students are comprehending material, feel comfortable in class, and leave with a great impression. -Joe Busse
Gamrath, Brady
Brady "is such a wonderful human. When he was in World History & Geography he was such a nice addition to the class. He would put himself out there through participation and he was also so kind and patient with his classmates (he was part of the inclusive classroom). He did a TedX with a focus on urban planning (tapping into geography!!), he is in scholastic bowl (participated in the student v teacher matchup), and he is also involved in Model UN." -Lauren Dudek
Mungo, Ryder
This school year Ryder has shown tremendous growth in so many ways. He has demonstrated great work ethic and resilience in an otherwise challenging year. He's shown awesome advocacy skills and we love his ability to chime in and participate in class discussions. Ryder's great smile, wit and sense of humor make us and his classmates smile. Keep up the good work and congrats on your well deserved award award. YOU ARE THE BEST! -Joe Harmsen
Stewart, Hannah
Hannah "has been a model AP Psychology scholar. AP Psych is a challenging course. In all, students must learn approximately 600 vocabulary terms, and students' abilities to make them memorable is crucial to success. Throughout the year, Hannah demonstrated immense creativity and dedication to this task through her creation of unique mnemonic devices. In order to do them well, a student must not only dedicate a lot of time, but also have a vast knowledge base they can use to connect disparate ideas together. Hannah showed other students how to be creative, and I even used some of her mnemonic devices throughout the year. Finally, she would often contribute answers to class questions or provide questions that furthered the discussion of topics, which helped to increase engagement in class." -Andrew Waple
Tiritilli, Ryan
The growth that Ryan has made from the first day of school to now is amazing. At the beginning of the year, Ryan was hesitant to participate in class and answer questions. Now he is one of the first students to raise his hand and throw out an answer. Chemistry is not always easy for Ryan and the concepts at times require him to put in additional time outside of class to grasp them. Rather than complaining that it is too hard and giving up, Ryan seeks help outside of class from myself, Cindy or Mr. Sullivan in the resource center. Ryan is an active member of his lab group and rarely wastes a minute of work time during class. It has been a pleasure working with him and seeing his growth this year. We are very proud of his growth and how confident he has become! -Becca Sorensen and Cindy Dell
Villagomez, Ricardo
Since coming into my Learning Strategies for semester 2 and going forward, Ricky has totally turned things around academically. He has made incredible strides on work completion, seeing his teachers outside of class and during PLT, and making a consistent day to day commitment to taking care of his academic responsibilities. Ricky clearly is motivated to do his best, we are so proud of him. -Scott Gilbert
Westerman, Sam
Sam served as the Team Leader for the Defense in our Law Honors Mock Trial last month. Throughout the month of prep leading up to it, Sam worked tirelessly to organize and motivate his team...to a win! Even when Sam was absent, he updated calendars and group chats to make sure every person knew what they should be doing that day. I have done 22 trials and have never seen a Team Leader work so hard , with so much focus. I couldn't be prouder! -Jessie Cole
Williams, Madeleine
Maddie had two knee surgeries this year and has managed those challenges extremely well with her independent, strong work ethic both as an athlete and as a student. Extremely hard working young lady with great goals for her future. -Megan Miles
Scouts Rock
All students and staff are invited to engage in Scout’s ROCK, which is an experiential rock painting activity on May 23rd, 2022 on the front lawn during lunch periods (10:30 am to 12:30 pm) in support of mental health awareness. Millions of adults and children across the country experience mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Nearly one in five Americans live with a mental health condition.
Students and staff will be provided the space and materials to create and paint a rock focused on self awareness, connection, coping with loss and change, kindness and community building. Students and staff will take the rock home with them to keep as a remembrance or share with a friend or family member to share hope and resiliency. Counselors, Social Workers, School Psychologists and members from Croya will join us and be available to support and answer any questions related to Mental Health Awareness. This is a great way for the Lake Forest school community to bond and connect to ensure that everyone knows that they are not alone, that help exists, and we will provide the mental health support needed to heal, recover, and thrive.

Rincón de la Directora
Estimada Escuela De Lake Forest High School,

-Drea Serrato
Cathlina, Will
-Jessie Cole
Williams, Madeleine
