14th annual D'JAMMY Awards background:

Dr. Bogle was nominated for a Grammy Award early in his career as a music artist and educator and this experience changed his life in such a positive way that he wanted to share this with his students. Since Dr. Bogle’s Grammy nomination in 1991 for Best Arrangement on an Instrumental for his arrangement of Got A Match? by Chick Corea for the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band, he has gone on to release 10 albums in his own name, teaching thousands of students about the process of “Writing, Recording and Releasing” music (The “3 R’s” of Commercial Music), and was been twice a Quarterfinalist for Grammy Music Educator of the Year.

Here are two important upcoming events for the Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education:

1. March 22nd, Friday, 7-9PM---Dr. Mike Bogle Trio at Collora Piano Showroom, 1451 Wycliff Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75207 (Collora Piano is the sole distributor of Fazioli Pianos in the Dallas area—the finest pianos in the world!). This will be an even that involves wine (BYOB) and first rate jazz. The growing Dr. Mike Bogle Jazz fan base are very much epicureans and bons vivants, as well as connoisseurs of fine and affordable wines here in the Dallas area and beyond.

This event is a fundraiser for the non-profit charitable organization, The Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education (M.I.K.E.). MIKE sponsors the annual D’Jammy Awards each April which awards cash scholarships to talented and disadvantaged young music artists (college students at Dallas College, Cedar Valley Campus where Dr. Bogle is a professor) in southern Dallas County in around 20 categories of popular music and commercial music production. The D’Jammys are in their 13th year here in Dallas and is growing each year and helping to inspire many young artists. MIKE is a 501c3 charitable organization and all donations are fully tax deductible as such. Here is a link to the MIKE web site. http://www.music501c3.org.

2. April 24th, Wednesday, 1-3PM, Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus Performance Hall, 3030 N. Dallas Ave., Lancaster, TX 75134 - The 13th Annual D’Jammy Awards sponsored by the Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education (M.I.K.E.) and Dallas College Cedar Valley Campus Commercial Music Department.

The D’Jammy Awards has been inspiring young music artists in southern Dallas County since 2010 and growing in popularity every year. Students submit their original works in 20 categories and the works are judged/rated by the students themselves to pick winners in each category. Cash scholarships of approximately $100 are distributed to the winners in each category. Students are able to win up to 5 categories if their work is selected by their peers.

Collora Piano's showroom presents a unique opportunity for a meaningful collaboration that aligns with the mission and vision of the Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education (MIKE). By bringing the transformative power of American Popular Music and Jazz to the forefront, this fundraiser not only supports MIKE's commitment to education, outreach, and inclusion but also emphasizes the crucial connection between music and academic disciplines. Dr. Bogle's illustrious career and dedication to commercial music education and jazz, exemplified by his Grammy nomination and subsequent contributions, make this event a beacon for aspiring musicians. The collaboration not only serves as a celebration of artistic excellence but also directly contributes to MIKE's initiatives, including the upcoming 13th Annual D’Jammy Awards, fostering inspiration and providing scholarships to talented and disadvantaged young artists. The event at Collora Piano, with its association with Fazioli Pianos and the allure of fine wines, promises to attract a vibrant audience, creating a memorable evening that echoes MIKE's commitment to nurturing the cultural legacy of American music.

MISSION AND VISION OF THE MUSICAL INSTITUTE FOR KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION

Our Mission

The Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education is a charitable organization that exists to provide education, outreach, and support for educators, communities, students, and citizens—including underserved and disadvantaged communities, and students with certain physiological or developmental disorders (i.e. Blindness, Asperger’s syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, and other conditions that seem to have a relationship to musical ability) with special emphasis on American Popular Music and Jazz.

Our Vision

Popular Music (to include jazz, blues, rock & roll, soul, country and western, and many sub genres) and the entire music industry as we know it, was created and invented first in America and has become an important export around the world—frequently copied, emulated, and admired. Other countries look to American musical artists as experts in these musical art forms and it is important for Americans to embrace this leadership role in the world artistic community with proper intention, integrity, and creative vision. American Popular Music is more than just sounds, poetry and entertainment. Jazz and American Popular Music represent the very freedom upon which our nation is founded—not just the best of what it means to be an American, but indeed what it means to be a human being.

We do not live in a vacuum where disciplines are separate and isolated. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM subjects) are enhanced when combined with music and the arts, and this process of cross-pollination has led to some of our country’s greatest scientific innovations.

Popular Music and Jazz are wonderful indigenous American art forms worthy of much more study and research. Lives and livelihoods will continue to be devoted exclusively to music—commercial, educational, and the more esoteric and artistic forms. Furthermore, through music (art) and technology, students can be encouraged to explore and participate in STEM careers. The benefits resulting from relating artistic and musical skills to other academic subjects will be apparent in academic curriculums and cultural systems nurtured by the innovation of the Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education.

The Musical Institute for Knowledge and Education will increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of our national treasure, American Popular Music and Jazz—something that is in danger of being lost due to budget cuts for music and the arts in public schools, community colleges and universities—and will foster innovation and originality to emphasize the significance of blending artistic and musical skills with other academic disciplines, especially the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
