Noted Afro-futurist Dr. Yaoundé Olu was Pigment International’s guest on Saturday for a conversation that encompassed Octavia Butler, Sun Ra, FESTAC ’77, graphic novels and of course Black Panther. The award-winning editorial cartoonist, illustrator, educator, and indie comic and graphic novel publisher shared a lifetime of cultural experiences that included meeting both Butler & Sun Ra and traveling to Nigeria along with Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr. and Minister Lewis Farrakhan to attend the iconic FESTAC ’77.
Artists on the 9ine, the two-block Artist District along 79th Street between Cottage Grove Ave and Evans Ave., has been transformed into a shopping mecca for the holiday season. Pigment International is hosting an art inspired gallery with art and gift items. They join BopBizand the Black Mallin featuring local small businesses. The space is open from noon – 7 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday through February 15th as part of the Mahalia Jackson Corridor and Cultural District.
