DPHS Community Member,
After seven school days, our Panthers now have real momentum built up and as the calendar of events listed below indicates, activity is picking up across the board. However, we are still working towards getting everyone to follow several important school policies & procedures which is to be expected at this point in the school year.
I do ask that all of our DP parents and guardians please invest a minute to re-read the few expectations we have listed within this edition. Most any school policy or procedure that we have in place has an overarching goal: student safety to some degree. Therefore, we depend upon both student and family cooperation throughout the entire year. Compliance with these expectations also works in maximizing student academic achievement and will give all of our students a positive high school experience during their time at DP.

Pictured above and at the very top:
The first seven days of school were a massive success! Students were greeted by their teachers with fun and innovative “getting to know you” activities or fantastic introductory lessons. The two images above are from Mrs. Patel's CIS English I honors class engaged in teams working on an activity called "Lost at Sea." We are off to a great start! (Additional pictures in a special segment below.)

Above and below: In Ms. Labarga’s AP Art History class, she had students try to replicate a famous art piece for 10 minutes in a color of their choice. Then they had to leave their paper by the art piece, keep the colors they used, and move to the next art piece to add their color to it in 5 minute rotations. They started off pretty well!

School Policies and Procedures
Important reminders as we begin our 2nd full week . . .
|
|
|
In the Classroom
Students, please remember that you are not allowed to leave your classroom in the first or last 10 minutes of every class period
Attendance
Students, your job here at school is to attend class and succeed in your studies and extracurriculars. Please make sure you are arriving to ALL of your classes on time and are attending each of your classes throughout the day, every day. Poor attendance, skipping and tardiness can and will have a negative impact on your grade. If you are absent for a doctor's visit or anything else that warrants an excused absence, please make sure to submit a signed note to the front attendance office as soon as possible once you return to school. If you have 5 unexcused absences in a calendar month or 10 in 90 days, you are considered truant and which can lead to school and legal consequences (driver's license revoked for example).
Arrivals & Dismissals
Panther parents and student drivers, please remember that there is only ONE lane to turn right into the student parking lot and student drop off lanes. Please do not cut off other cars or attempt to turn right from the center lane. This not only can cause an accident but endangers yourself, the other drivers around you and anyone walking in the immediate area. As a reminder, you should also NEVER be dropping your students off ON Turkey Lake Rd. This is extremely dangerous, especially in the dark mornings and could cause you or your student to be harmed if other cars do not anticipate your stop or see your student. The only place your student can be dropped off is in the drop off lane on DPHS campus. Remember, arriving early means your student can be dropped off quicker and safer. Please plan accordingly, especially in the first few weeks of school.
Here are a few points to follow regarding Early Dismissal:
|
|
● If your student is ill, he/she must go to the Clinic, our nurse, Mrs. Carrasquillo, will call you if your student needs to go home and will issue the appropriate dismissal paperwork and pass. Your child may not call you to pick them up for being sick unless he/she has been dismissed for the day by Mrs. Carrasquillo.
● When retrieving your student early for an appointment, upon their arrival back to school please have him/her place the doctor/dentist/therapist/attorney/court/DMV, etc note in the Attendance Box located in the Front Office.
● If your student drives to school and he/she needs to leave, IN A TIMELY MANNER please send an email along with a copy of your state issued ID to: DrPhillips_HS@OCPS.net
Thank you!
