The Panther Post
Monday, December 5, 2022
DPHS Community Member,

Starting Tuesday morning, we will be running a modified bell schedule to accommodate student testing (daily schedules are below). Please also remember that Wednesday, December 7 will be a regular length school day — no early dismissal.

By this point in the semester our Panthers should be ready for next week's assessments, so this leaves only a few reminders beforehand: 1) get a good night's rest the evening prior to the test; 2) remember to eat a healthy breakfast the morning of the test; 3) make sure you have your laptop power cord and battery charged the morning of the test; and 4) remember that you have done the work and to relax during the test — simply do your best. In life the goal is not necessarily to always be the best, but it is very important to always do your best.
Panther thespians at the District 5 Thespian Festival prior to Thanksgiving. Congratulations on your many awards (below). Awww DP!

In this issue you will find several student-led holiday giving campaigns to support worthy causes. If you are able, please select one that you like and contribute anything you can. No donation is too small and is gratefully appreciated. Thank you very much for your kindness.

As always, prepare to make this another successful week and please do not forget about Thursday evening's Winter Chorus Concert. This is something the entire family will enjoy at this special time of year!

In Panther Pride,

Jackie Ramsey

Panther Spotlight
Ambika Chottani, Sophomore
Ambika Chottani does it again! In our October 30th issue there was a feature on Ambika winning two $500.00 grants to buy Holocaust literature. And now the CIS sophomore has earned the CIS Magnet $1,000 by writing a grant request to the Mark Schonwetter Holocaust Education Foundation.

The grant will fund the purchase of a book titled "Salvaged Pages." The book is a compilation of writings by teenagers found hidden in ghettos, camps, and homes during the Nazi invasion. First-person accounts from young people give us a unique perspective of a tragic event that continues to impact us today. We aim to stand up against hatred and racism, in all its forms, and create a just and inclusive society for all.

OCPS Scholarship Bulletin
The OCPS Scholarship Bulletin for 2022-2023 is available. This is something that parents of college bound students should view especially in light of prevailing economic conditions. There are a large number of opportunities available, but it is important to take careful note of their application deadlines.
Companies Requiring College:
Making sense of the chart: The tight labor market since the pandemic is prompting more employers to eliminate one of the biggest requirements for many higher-paying jobs: a college degree. Companies such as Google, Delta Air Lines and International Business Machines have reduced educational requirements for certain positions and shifted hiring to focus more on skills and experience. However, our Panthers should remember the chart reflects only a short-run trend since 2018.
