DPHS Community Member,
Congratulations to our Lady Panthers basketball team for earning a berth in the Class 7A State Championship Tournament Final Four! Their outstanding 58-51 win over Oak Ridge on Thursday propelled our Panthers into the Final Four.
Speaking of Panther athletics, our spring sports season is now fully underway and we have a number of home games scheduled this week (below). At the time I was writing this message, the weather outlook for the week was for continued beautiful Florida spring temps and skies, so please come on out and enjoy a game or two!
Thank you for reading this latest issue and while spring break is fast approaching, I ask that all of our Panthers continue to focus on their personal goals and to please take advantage of each instructional day. Prepare to make this another successful week!

students visit Denmark
At the start of February, some of our CIS students and teachers traveled from DPHS to Tirstrup Boarding School in Denmark to gain a unique experience through a homestay. During this trip, CIS students were able to learn more about the culture and traditions that the Danish have through visiting museums and living with Danish families. Students participated in activities at the boarding school, such as their morning walks around the school and daily massages before the start of class for well-being. Students were able to gain a special perspective from learning from the locals. In their free time, students were able to explore different communities and cities with their hosts and friends.
Our students and teachers had an amazing time and are so grateful to have been able to absorb so much knowledge from this trip. CIS is so excited to host the Danish when they visit our school March 5 through the 14.
If you see Danish students around campus or in your classes, don't be shy to say hello and give them a warm welcome!

Annual Show Us Your Strength Photo Contest
WIN $2,500 FOR YOUR SCHOOL!
The Observer Media Group and Healthy West Orange once again are teaming up for our annual Show Us Your Strength contest.
We love seeing people doing good in our community. We love stories of compassion, of people lending hands, of people working together to make our community stronger. In fact, we love it so much that we’ve revamped our annual contest to find more of it!
In years past, this has been a photo contest open to all schools in West Orange and Southwest Orange. We received hundreds of submissions from sports teams, performing-arts groups and classrooms showing off their strength in all sorts of ways.
This year, we’re again searching for strength — but with a twist. We’re looking for your school’s champion. You know: the person or people who are always there to volunteer, to assist, to help out. These are the people who make your school better.
Entering is easy! Submit a photo of your superhero along with a short written entry (200 words or fewer) telling us why he or she is a champion for good in your school community.
Submissions will be accepted from Thursday, Jan. 18 through Monday, Mar. 25.
Then, come back to the contest site from Mar. 26 through Apr. 12 to vote.
Winning submission will be announced Thursday, Apr. 18, 2024.

Panther Happenings Around Campus
Above and below:
On Friday the 16th, students from La Sociedad Honorary Hispanica and Haitian Student Association partnered to throw a cultural parade in the central courtyard during both A and B lunch. All students had a great time and it was a good reminder of just how wonderfully diverse Dr. Phillips is!
Ms. Birriel, the sponsor of La Sociedad Honorary Hispanica had this to say about the event: “HSA reached out to us, La Sociedad Honorary Hispanica, they wanted to incorporate afro latinos represented by Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brasil, Colombia, Venezuela, Panamá and Mexico. We thought why not include other countries such as India, Philippines and China. It was a Carnival around the World hosted by Haiti.”

Congratulations to DP art student Alisa Andrievskaya whose color pencil drawing of "A Pisces Dream” was chosen to be featured with nine other pieces (out of 40 submissions!) in the lobby of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The artwork was specifically chosen to be featured during the run of Moulin Rouge! The Musical from February 20th through March 3rd, and an estimated 40,000 patrons will see the art during that time frame!

On Wednesday, February 21st the National Technical Honor Society inducted in their new members for the 2023-2204 school year. Congratulations to all of these Panthers on this achievement!

AFJROTC Military Ball
The Cadets of Air Force JROTC had their 34th annual Military Ball on Saturday, February 10th. The prom-like military tradition was attended by over 210 students and staff, including our principal, Ms. Ramsey. The night started with military ceremonial events followed by a formal dinner. After dinner, the traditional “Grog” was celebrated as a penalty for certain wrongdoings. Finally, we announced the Military Ball Court and finished the evening with dancing. Everyone enjoyed the experience and laughed a lot too!

Morning Arrivals and Drop-Offs
Panther parents and student drivers, please remember that there is only ONE lane to turn right into the student parking lot and student drop off lanes. Please do not cut off other cars or attempt to turn right from the center lane. This not only can cause an accident but endangers yourself, the other drivers around you and anyone walking in the immediate area.
As a reminder you should also NEVER be dropping your students off ON Turkey Lake Rd. This is extremely dangerous, especially in the dark mornings and could cause you or your student to be harmed if other cars do not anticipate your stop or see your student. The only place your student can be dropped off is in the drop off lane on DPHS campus.
Remember, arriving early means your student can be dropped off quicker and safer. Please plan accordingly! Thank you.
